Halloween 2014

Wow, you guys... not much blogging going on this year... but that's ok. This has been one of the busiest years ever for us, mostly with the boys' school, as it's kicking our butts! All four of us. But mostly the fifth grader. I've learned very fast that my last bit of homework was not when college was over... I'm doing it all over again! Ha. And I keep having those old lady moments, saying to myself, "I didn't have to do THIS when I was your age!". Sigh. It's all good though. Life is good, if not challenging - you know, like life is for everyone on this planet.

I've also gotten much more involved in the boys' school, which I've really enjoyed. My eyes have definitely been opened to the massive work put into it by the PTO as I've helped them out this year. My volunteering used to be mostly extended to the boys' teachers or classrooms, but I've been doing much more beyond that and it's been so fulfilling (and hopefully helpful). Not as much as the PTO does, don't get me wrong, they are the real heroes and hardworkers when it comes to schools (and let's not forget those teachers and staff!!).

I often think about this blog, how much it has changed... how much blogging in general has changed... how *I* have changed. I think about how much time and work I used to put into this blog. While I do miss blogging (I still love it despite how much Instagram and even Facebook has taken away focus from it), blogging is a HELLA lot of work. I understand why people started monetizing their blogs and turning their blogs into businesses. You should get PAID for all that work.

That said, blogging is still a hobby for me and I do still prefer this format over Instagram and Facebook... I love looking at other blogs on my laptop or desktop computer (and sometimes on Ethan's ipad)... i like seeing the photos BIG. And even though I'm extremely active on my phone, seeing things there isn't the end game for me. (That said, I do plan on making this blog more mobile-friendly... going to figure that out shortly via Typepad!)

All this to say - I'm still going to keep blogging! Even if I keep on adopting the "quality over quantity" mantra. I've been doing it for almost 10 (!!!) years now. I do have *A LOT* I want to share with you! I have Anime Weekend Atlanta photos, I have hundreds of photos to share with you from our Tokyo (!!!!!) trip that we returned from recently (you can see a very small peek at that trip in the separate Instagram account I made for it here), I have some other news pertaining to my own professional work, and some holiday inspiration. It might all come v e r y slowly. But I do vow to follow through with it, if only for my own benefit.

Ok on to the topic at hand here! HALLOWEEN. I hope you all had a fabulous one! Ours was a bit haphazard due to the fact that we returned from Tokyo just a few days before Halloween and we had NO time before the trip to plan for anything. So, I went with my LSP costume that I used for Momocon this year to go with Campbell's costume: Beemo! (You can see our other Adventure Time costumes from Halloween last year here.)

I decided to add a little to my costume (because I have a hard time recycling costumes... it's so sad and boring to me! I need something NEW!), so I added some bridal stuff to go with an episode where LSP is very mad that someone ELSE is getting married and that she wasn't invited. ; ) And I couldn't resist adding my "Full of Beans" can (see episode details below). I have to say, Party City always comes to the rescue. Found the veil for $15 and the little bouquet there. The veil had such a 60s look to it in my mind, which I loved. The go-go boots have NOTHING to do with LSP, but I just had to wear them. I bought them at a consignment store in Birmingham, Alabama earlier this year. I really just needed an excuse to wear them, and hey, I bet LSP would totally dig them. I love the pastel purple lipstick which is unfortunately hard to see in these pics.

Cooper was GOING to be Lemongrab (he does THE best impression of him) but he changed his mind at the last minute to be a pro Arsenal player. I was bummed, but at the same time, we really had no time to make a Lemongrab costume. I think he's just growing up... I think he's starting to get more into "cool" costumes... he even said he wanted to be someone scary next year, The Grim Reaper perhaps? Sigh, he's not my baby anymore.

We didn't have time to make anything for Ethan. Campbell's costume ended up being so easy to make! It only took me a day. I think it's my favorite costume yet. He loved it, although at the end of the night he said he felt "embarrassed" walking around as a box. Sigh, again, they are becoming too self-aware! Haha. Beemo is now sitting in their room and I smile every time I walk by and see him smiling at me. (or is he a she? or genderless? there seems to be confusion online.)

Ok, enough yapping.. here are some more pictures... this is our mad (or in my case, grumpy) face...

This is what happens when Ethan says "pretend like someone just farted"...

This is our YAY HAPPY face...

This is his "skinny lips" face that always makes me laugh.

This is the face Campbell makes when I tell him it's *OK* to stand in the middle of the road... going against what I've told him his entire life... (part happiness, part terror)

In case you haven't seen Adventure Time yet (and I stress YET - get on that, friend! it's on Cartoon Network), here are some comparison images of our characters. Lumpy Space Princess, I think, will go down in animation history as one of the most hilarious characters ever. If you don't believe me, watch my all time favorite episode with her here.

You can see a partial video clip

here.

And THE BEANS.

Did you dress up? What were you? Please link! Yay for Halloween!
