DIY Mini Succulents In Mason Jars #CMYK

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of HP MyPrintly. All opinions are 100% mine.

Oh my cuteness!

When HP MyPrintly invited me to create something special from their inspirational material I couldn't wait to get started on an awesome DIY for my children's teachers. I visited HP's newest site, MyPrintly to peruse their DIY projects and ideas. MyPrintly.com will inspire you and turn you into a creative genius!

If you didn't know, last week was Teacher Appreciation week. I hope you all honored your children's teachers to show them how awesome they all are. I adore all my daughter's teacher at our homeschool consortium. They have a great passion for teaching my girls and I wanted to thank them with something special.

I decided to create mini succulent gardens in Mason Jars and give them as gifts

to all the amazing teachers!

My girls are learning from a large pool of other wonderful parents whose focus is on educating their children and mine. It is always so nice to be able to show appreciation for this amazing group of moms that help my girls grow every week!

My girls and I were ready to dirty with paint and soil making DIY Succulents in Mason Jars.

Since my girls are still young, I didn't want to overwhelm them with a huge project. These little mini succulent garden are perfect to put together in short time spans.

The first thing we did was paint the Mason jars with chalk board paint. I selected Mason jelly jars since they are the perfect size to plant succulents. Just one coat of the chalk board paint was perfect and using a mini sponge paint brush worked fabulously. I let these jars dry for a full day, but they really were dry in about an hour or so.

Next, we were ready to spray paint the Mason jars in the Robin's Egg Matte spray paint and primer in one that the girls had selected. Simply remove the lid and spray paint the jars. My kids had a great time spray painting all the jars. We turned the jars upside down and sprayed fully and once they were dry, we turned them over and sprayed the top of the jars.

Once the paint was fully dry(we waited another full day), we got to work with a sponge sandpaper. Have you used one of these? My favorite tool ever! Basically, where ever the raised glass is on the jar, just run the sandpaper across and sand the paint off. This gives the jars a wonderful old vintage look and the black chalkboard paint shows through nicely.

I had decided to plant succulents for several reasons. First, they are pretty. Second, they are low maintenance . . . I didn't want to create extra work for all these amazing women. IF you happen to forget to water the succulents for awhile, they pretty much won't die on you. Third, succulents would be easy for my girls to work with.

I purchased a bag of soil and had the girls fill up the Mason jars that we had painted and sanded with some soil, about 3/4 full. We took the succulents out of their little plastic pots and replanted them into the painted Mason jars. I filled in the gaps with extra potting soil. We had a nice little assembly line as we worked.

My girls were so excited to plant mini succulent gardens in jars for all their teachers. This was such a fun DIY project for my girls and I to complete together. This totally inspired my girls to grow something and take care of it. They each planted their own succulent Mason jar and are taking very good care of them.

I wanted to add another something special to the DIY succulent Mason jars so I added tags to the jars. I just printed mine on my HP Envy 5660 Printer, cut them out and attached the tags to the old fashioned colorful paper straws with wasabi tape and poked the straws in the jars. I love the results! Aren't they adorable?

What do you think of these DIY Succulents in Mason Jars? The teachers LOVED them!
