People and living for EVA magazine: House on the lake

It's been late summer when I photographed this house and its inhabitants for EVA magazine's People and living column. It is one of those places where you feel instantly well, just sitting on the terrace overlooking the lake, and don't want to leave (especially if there are some cuddly animals around). Also, I realized, I wouldn't be able to have a home office here, the connection between the exterior and interior keeps you daydreaming (admitting, this might also be contributed to the fact of simply getting out of Bratislava). Peter is also the architect and builder of the house, both with Patrícia (who is a graphic designer and you can see her touches in the interior) they did a lot of the work themselves, recycling many things in the process.
The result is a very tasteful, comfortable space, that was nominated this year in the category of Family houses at CEZAR, the Slovak Awards for Architecture.

Bolo to príjemné, neskoré leto, keď bola fotiť tento dom na jazere a jeho obyvateľov pre rubriku Ľudia a bývanie časopisu EVA. Dom na jazere je miestom, kde sa okamžite cítite dobre, stačí sedieť na terase s výhľadom na jazero a ten pokoj vás úplne pohltí a nechcete sa odtiaľ pohnúť (najmä, keď máte ako bonus prítulnú domácu zver). A nie, že sa vám iba nechce odísť, ja si ani neviem predstaviť tu mať home office napríklad, to prepojenie exteriéru a interiéru je také silné, že by ste len pozerali von (pripúšťam, čiastočne to môže byť aj tým, že proste vypadnete z Bratislavy na chvíľu). Peter je architektom a v tomto prípade aj staviteľom domu, spolu s Paťou (ktorá je grafická dizajnérka a jej ruku jasne cítiť v interiéri) na ňom väčšinu vecí robili vlastnoručne, pričom veľa vecí zrecyklovali napríklad priamo zo stavby.
Výsledkom je čistý, útulný priestor, ktorý bol tento rok nominovaný na CEZAR-a, Cenu za architektúru, v kategórii Rodinné domy.

Inspired by their travels and Asian architecture, the house is standing above the ground, covered in a lot of wood and without a fence around it. As they say, fences only divide people, and here they are trying to live happily together with the few neighbours around the lake.
Inšpirovaný cestovaním majiteľov a ázijskou architektúrou, dom stojí na koloch, s dreveným posúvacím tienením a bez plota. Ako domáci hovoria, ploty ľudí iba rozdeľujú a ich snahou je dosiahnuť pravý opak, vytvoriť si dobré vzťahy s tou hŕstkou ľudí bývajúcou okolo jazera.

The kitchen island stands on recycled wooden pallets, one of the more sophisticated and practical pallet solutions I have seen.

Kuchynský ostrov stojí na drevených paletách - jedno z najelegantnejších paletových riešení, aké som naživo videla.

The youngest of the family: Alžbetka and Bugriš (when counted in human years).

There is a narrow walking path around the house, between the windows and the movable wooden window screens.

Medzi oknami, či skôr presklenými stenami a pohyblivými drevenými okenicami je úzka cestička a veľa vzduchu.

The wooden bench and iron door (now part of the bathroom door) are thrifted items, simply painted white.

Drevená lavička a kovové dvere (teraz zapracované do kúpeľňových dverí) sú najdúchovia jednoducho natretí na bielo.

The white Eames chair creating the reading nook in the bedroom was a longtime wish.

Biela Eames stolička v čítacom kútiku v spálni bola splneným snom.
