Why I Chose to Home School My Daughter: Part 2

The next year in First Grade. Ashlynn's First Grade teacher was concerned about her and I spoke with her about my concerns as well. I had decided that I wasn't going to wait for the school to test her. That I was going to have her tested and pay for it myself. I wanted to get help for my daughter and didn't want to wait until she was a year and a half behind in school.
We went and had her tested and they gave us a diagnosis. The doctor also recommended that we do Home School if possible. He felt that she would thrive in that environment. Schools teach children one way and only that way. And they expect every child to learn the same way. And Ashlynn learns differently than the way that they teach.

Homeschooling was a very big decision for me and my husband. We talked about it a lot and prayed about it for a long time. Was it going to be the right thing for her? Would she miss her friends at school? Would she do better at home? We had all of these questions running through our minds. And we had a lot of people telling us not to do it too. But, we wanted to make the decision ourselves and not let other people's opinions sway our decision.
We still weren't comfortable making the decision about Homeschooling yet. So, she went through the rest of First Grade year having reading help in school and me helping her at home, but it really never got any better than it did in Kindergarten...
