Homemade Granola

Since beginning my healthy living lifestyle change I have become a lot more aware of all the crap that is added to food which you think would be healthy. You’d think granola would be a safe choice but alas no most store bought granola has added sugar. WHAT? That surprised me. Granola is great as a breakfast dish and can be used in a variety of ways. You can make granola bars, add fresh fruit and greek yogurt or just serve it with milk.

After seeing the crap that is added I decided homemade granola would be a better choice. Firstly there’s the sugar thing but I also despise dried fruit so making my own seemed the logical choice since most granolas contain raisins. Seriously who likes raisins? they are basically shrivelled up grapes. Ewww! Making your own granola is super easy peasy! Just follow the instructions below

Homemade Granola

500g rolled oats

125g walnuts, chopped

100g pumpkin seeds

2-3 tablespoons maple syrup

2 tbsp Lucy Bee virgin coconut oil

Instructions: Preheat the oven to 200º C. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl then use your hands to combine and. Spread the mix onto a baking sheet in a thin layer and then put in oven and bake for 10 minutes, til lightly toasted. Let cool before you serve. Keep any leftovers in an airtight piece of tupperware and place somewhere cool and dry. The mix will keep fresh for around 2 weeks.

There you have it, it’s that easy to make your own homemade granola! Why not give it a try.
