A Cup of Tea with Me

There’s frost on the grass, Triple M on the radio, and the sound of trams trundling past – there is no doubt about where I am on this Thursday morning! It is so good to be home.

Sure I’m wearing a handmade poncho on top of an entire winter outfit, I have socks inside my slippers, and can often be found sitting on the stairs because it’s the warmest part of the house, but it’s home.

Speaking of which, I saw this the other day:

Seems legit.

But anyway, back to the home business… I remember thinking along wtf lines when I’d see people post statuses like “oh I love travelling, but I love coming home even more!”. Like, that made no sense to me. You’re home every farking day, what’s so special about that? It can’t be more exciting than taking an exotic trip overseas. It’s comforting, and a relief, but it’s not more exciting than seeing the world, is it? There are the same cushions on the couch as before you left. You still have to clean the toilets.

Coming home this time was more of a relief, as I was more than ready to get back to normalcy. I think if I’d travelled with my whole family, à la the Childses, I’d have had the intestinal fortitude to trundle on, but the only thing that happened to my intestines after a week in America was a hell of a lot of Pepto Bismol, and severe confusion. I thought I had guts of steel, but apparently it’s steel that holds up everywhere but the USA.

This may have something to do with it. We put cream or milk (plant or otherwise) in our coffee, in the US you can find me tearing open a packet (or two, let’s be realistic) of this:

“Contains milk” cool, thanks.

Milk in a non-dairy creamer.

I mean, for real. I can handle some frankenfood but this is nuts. I mostly have half and half but even that can be questionable. As was the yogurt at the buffet in Wholefoods. At home I eat yogurt that is milk, cultures, and maybe some flavouring. The Wholefoods yogurt contained almost 20 ingredients and I don’t have a clue what they were. I skipped that and went for the grits and vegan mushroom gravy. A biscuit too, because when in Rome. But enough about my digestive issues!

Part one of the trip was just what I needed. Hot guy, endless sun and books, and good food. It rejuvenated me like never before, AND I managed to miss the Mt Raung ash cloud at the end of it that left plenty of people stranded. Yes, I was mauled by monkeys, but I can overlook that. Sort of.

Back to kinder dropoffs, grocery shopping and this here laptop, but I’m glad to be home. I’m in no hurry to go any further than Smith and Deli for the next little while.

What about you though? Been somewhere fun lately? Got something planned? Make me jealous!
