Social Media: Do You See It All?

You may well have seen it on one of the many web sites which reports on technology and happenings surrounding social media and the various social platforms so many people use to keep in touch, to promote themselves, to show a presence: Facebook decides what you should see on your timeline and suppresses some posts and updates even from your listed friends.

It seems, after a short test this evening, that Facebook is not the only social platform which does this. Google Plus seems to be hiding things too.

Checking through this evening, I wanted to see whether I could find a certain unattributed photograph somewhere else. The fact that Google Plus removes the usual endings – such as .jpg and .png – is nothing new. What surprised me more was, when I hit refresh on my main Home page, I suddenly got to see a whole selection of posts which hadn’t been visible before. Normally there is a small blue marker showing that someone has posted something since I logged in, since I started viewing. This time there was nothing, but twenty or thirty posts which appeared above the post I had been viewing, meaning that they must be newer, which hadn’t been there before.

Is Google deciding what I can see and what should remain hidden from view amongst my circles?

Love & Kisses, Viki.
