Easy Pot of Gold Party Favors

Here’s a super easy project that you can make to spruce up your St. Patrick’s Day festivities. Whether you’re having an actual party or just want to hand out some little holiday tokens to friends or family, this is a great way to do it. And you probably already have most of the supplies around your home anyway.

DIY Pot of Gold Party Favors – what you need:

  • gold/yellow tissue paper
  • strips of tissue paper in multiple other colors
  • scissors
  • small pieces of candy or other trinkets
  • yarn or ribbon

Step 1: Cut the tissue paper

For this project, you’ll need some squares of yellow or gold tissue paper. The actual size depends on what exactly you plan to fill it with. But if you plan to fill it with a couple small pieces of candy, then each side should be about 6 inches long. You’ll also need to cut some long strips of tissue paper in all the colors of the rainbow. The ones shown here are about a half inch thick and 8 inches long.

Step 2: Add the “gold”

In the middle of each piece of yellow tissue paper, place a few small pieces of candy or other trinkets that you want to give out to people on St. Patrick’s Day. A few of those chocolate coins could really fit with the whole “pot of gold” thing I think.

Step 3: Tie it all together

Tuck the ends of each colorful strip of tissue paper under the candy. Then fold the corners of the yellow tissue paper up over the candy, leaving the rest of the colorful strips of paper sticking out. Take a piece of yarn or ribbon and tie it around the top of the yellow paper to keep it wrapped around the candy. Cut away any excess yellow paper if it’s sticking out too much. But it doesn’t need to be too perfect, since people will be ripping it open to get to what’s inside anyway. But for those seconds before, it’ll look like a festive pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Very festive!
