How to Pack for a Long Weekend Away
I hope that everybody had a nice weekend! Ryan and I officially are away on our anniversary trip to Door County, Wis. Be sure to follow along on Snapchat and Instagram (msinthemidwest) to see what we are up to. In the meantime, Kristen put together a fantastic post about how to pack for a long weekend away. Enjoy!
Hi Karly’s readers! A huge thank you to the fabulous Karly for having me over at her place today while she’s off on her anniversary getaway. For those of you I haven’t met before, my name is Kristen and I blog over at See You In A Porridge (unrelated to goldilocks) about a whole lot of nothing and everything; books, cats, travel, expat life (I’m from Australia) etc etc.
One of my favourite things to talk about, post about, read about, think about
is packing. It’s one of my favourite parts about travelling, because it involves planning and I love to plan. I’m all about that carry on life, whether it’s for 2 weeks or 3 days. You can find all my
packing posts on my blog, or below.
Sure, some might say I get way too into packing and planning what to pack, but the alternative for me is ‘throw everything in a huge suitcase, not wear anything because everything is wrinkled, nothing matches and oh look a H&M I’ll just buy a new wardrobe’. I’d much rather plan what to pack and what to wear before we leave, so I don’t have to worry about things like that when I’m actually there. Obviously longer trips require more planning, but shorter trips still stress me out because I don’t like just having one option, and on a longer trip at least I have more to mix and match. So I tend to throw way more than I need in a bag for a smaller trip than I would for a longer trip, you know – for the dreaded
just in case. I have never been to Door County, Wis., though of course I googled it and it looks absolutely gorgeous. If I were going, this is what I would pack:
find all product info here You might be thinking, wow, that’s a lot for a few days… but like I said, I like options, and if it fits, it’s coming. Well to be honest, I’d probably pack more layers because even though I now live in Kentucky and I can handle the winters (with plenty of complaining) I still grew up in Sydney and I don’t do cold well.
and here are the outfits I’d put together using those items:
Obviously, you could mix and match or switch it up however you wanted. I normally change clothes at least once a day, when travelling, so that’s why I like having multiple options.
Anyway, if you’ve seen one of my packing posts before, you know I am pretty true to my ‘style’ – that being lots of stripes and neutrals. My outfits might seem a bit boring, but I am okay with that. When I look back on my photos, or think back on memories, I’m not focusing on my outfits. I’m thinking about the cities we explored, the food we ate and the fun we had. The only time I remember my outfit is in a negative way – I might remember that I wore boots instead of sneakers just to look cute and my feet hated me, and that’s not a memory I want. I’d much rather forget about my feet and enjoy the wonderful world of travel, right?
