Bedside Beauty: January Skincare

For the first time in forever, I can safely say I'm about 99% sure I've found a skincare routine that works for me. Perhaps it's because I travelled slightly less in December and had more of a routine- but going into the new year, I've found myself turning to the same products and waking up with the same baby-soft clear skin that had started to become a bit of a distant memory a couple of months ago.

Now, I know my skin will chop and change with the times of the month and stress levels- but for now I've been really keen to let you in on a few hero products I've used daily (and repurchased) across December and January...

The staples...
Lets start with the cleanse! After discovering Kate Sommerville's Goat Milk cleanser this summer, it's been my go-to repurchase ever since. Now onto my 3rd bottle of the stuff, this product has fast become one of my favourites for fuss free, gentle and super soft make up removal. Although it does separate in the bottle and works a little bit like an oil based balm (which with water turns into a creamy milk like consistency)- it's been one of the most reliable cleansers I've used in a long time- I just wish it was available over here!

On top of that, I've been following up with a Darphin Aromatic Care Oil underneath my moisturiser, as well as my desert-island beauty item Eight Hour Cream- which is the only thing that ensures I don't wake up with dry lips.

The thirst-quenchers...
So- lets talk moisture! I have about four moisturisers that I use on rotation (be it morning, evening or a once a week treat)- all of which I love equally (so much so, picking a favourite would be like picking a favourite child- or something like that)... The first every-day evening one is the Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief. This pink pot of goodness is amazing at nourishing dry skin in an instant- without leaving any residue behind. It's also amazing when travelling, plane pampering and during the chillier months for the ultimate dewy-skinned 'just been for a run' look. The second go-to has to be Sunday Riley's Tidal- I use this a few times a week, but a little goes a long way and it leaves my skin bright and soothed- which is exactly what I need during these dark (dry) days- le sigh.

My second two favourites have to be Moon Fruit by Herbivore Botanicals and the Liz Earle Superskin Moisturiser. Moon Fruit is definitely my treat product. Although it's incredibly light- I tend to treat it like an overnight face mask (even though I do massage it all in so there's no purple excess), and love waking up with an even soft complexion. The only point to mention is that is does have quite a strong scent (prominently Ylang Ylang)- so if you're after something natural but non fragranced this may not quite be the one.

Finally- the all rounder! I've been using the Liz Earle Superskin Moisturiser since I went to the
Isle of Wight in September, and if in doubt- this is what I'll pull out. It does exactly what it says on the tin (super skin, anyone?) and I love having it as a fail safe in my skincare. The breton striped tee of moisturisers if you like.

The one-mask wonder...
Finally! Who doesn't love a good face mask? Until about a year ago face masks were exclusively things you'd use at teenage sleepovers, but nowadays they're a solid weekly pick-me-up- or emergency spot solution when the goin' gets tough. This month my number one goes to the Glam Glow Youthmud Mask. I know I'm late to the party here (especially as I've now seen they're stocked in MARKS AND SPENCER ZOMG) but this mask is amazing. Although it is one helluva tingly experience (I promise you'll be fine) it instantly leaves my skin soft and glowing (and doesn't leave me read or broken out, which gets a huzzah from me)! Alternatively I also love the Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask which is v. similar and does a great job of drawing out any nasties too.
