My First Trip to the Washington Coast

I had the itch to get out of town, again. After our snowy adventure, this California girl needed to see the beach. So on a rainy Saturday we hopped in the car with the bf’s niece, and headed to Ocean Shores, WA.

Ocean Shores is an easy getaway for western-Washingtonians. We drove through the Capitol on the way. I love this building, it’s so beautiful!

When we pulled into town the bf told me to close my eyes and he’d tell me when to open them. When I opened my eyes we were ON the sand. It’s so crazy to me, but you’re allowed to drive on the beach there. No more driving in circles looking for parking in Hermosa Beach, just pull onto the sand in Ocean Shores!

Considering how rainy it was, we spent a decent amount of time running from waves and writing messages in the sand.

We then stopped for lunch a place called Alec’s. It was warm and the service was pleasant, but I wouldn’t recommend it. The food left something to be desired and we ordered a plate of mussels that we had to send back because you could literally smell them from three tables away. The manager came by after to assure us they were fresh, but smelly seafood is not one of “we have to go back there!” criteria.

We drove around town for a little bit and saw a deer just hanging out in someone’s front yard. It was beautiful! Then we headed back. The drive back was nice and we stopped in Aberdeen at an adorable Starbucks for hot chocolate and a bathroom break. Then we hit Half Price Books Outlet in Olympia.

All in all it was a great day trip to check out the Washington Coast for the first time ever. I’m excited to go back during the summer when I can walk around without freezing or getting rained on (a big wish for this area). We’ll probably do an overnight trip and I’ll definitely let you know how it goes!
