White spaces: our founder, Chrissie, styles Christmas

With Christmas creeping ever closer, festive décor is top of our November to-do list. Creating an elegant home with sparkle and personality – from the tree to the table – needn’t require hours of prep. Instead, seek out simple solutions (authentic faux trees, beautiful lighting) that look wonderful and require minimal effort.

Our founder, Chrissie Rucker MBE, opened the doors of her beautiful home to Homes & Gardens for their December issue. Discover how she creates an effortlessly stylish (and fabulously festive) feel in every room.

The living room

I like the house to feel warm, welcoming and relaxed, so that everyone can have a good time. Organisation is key – I try to do as much in advance as I can.”

All eyes will instantly be drawn to the Christmas tree, so ensure yours is a showstopper, like our wonderful 7.5ft Spruce. Festoon with two styles of baubles (try white and silver for timeless elegance) and entwine the branches with extra-long lights for a warm, golden glow. Dress the mantelpiece with a beautiful statement garland and scatter glimmering tealights among the foliage.

Chrissie also likes to display an array of greenery, such as miniature faux trees or garlands, in each of her four children’s bedrooms.

The dining table

“Christmas is the perfect time to go to town on the dining table. I always use a beautiful linen tablecloth and napkins, paired with pretty glasses and china.”

Dining in December is always a special occasion. For a relaxed and elegant ambience, Chrissie likes to layer crisp white linen, gleaming glassware and beautiful silver accents. Artfully arranged candles (unscented, so as not to affect the food) look stunning in pillar-shaped holders, while personalised name-tags and place-card holders are charming additions that will please guests big and small.

“Simple wreaths (on the front door) adorned with frosted cones reflect the understated elegance inside.”

Make a magical first impression before guests even step through the door by transforming your porch, front steps or garden into a festive wonderland. For understated elegance, trail glowing storm lanterns along the path to guide the way, entwining fairy lights among the wreath or foliage.

There’s no such thing as too many candles at Christmastime – especially when they’re as delicious as ours. From White Christmas to Winter, Highland Escape to Fir Tree, they’re specially designed to capture the spirit of the season.
