Thank Us Later: This Is the Bra Trend You'll Want to Wear All Summer

What's your favorite summertime activity? If your answer is the moment you finally—FINALLY—get to take off your bra at the end of a long, too-humid day, well, we're here for you. Because freeing yourself from the shackles of suffocating undergarments should not top picnics in the park or frosé as the highlight of your season.

But if it does, don't fret—we just might have a solution. Padded and molded-cup bras may have shaping capabilities that flimsier bralettes don't, but all that polyurethane foam means even the thinner ones aren't particularly breathable. Making the swap to unlined styles with lace or sheer mesh cups makes a world of difference in the sweltering heat of summer—trust me—and you could find you like the more natural shape they create.

Now that brands like Victoria's Secret have come around to the era of the bralette, the timing is right for its grown-up sister—underwire and wireless cut-and-sew unlined bras—to have their moment in the spotlight.

"In the States, there's always kind of been an aversion to sheer or mesh or unlined bras," explains Cora Harrington of The Lingerie Addict. "The whole T-shirt bra concept is really founded upon the idea of hiding your nipples, which is more of a problem here than, say, in Western Europe. So I'm wondering if the next step after this bralette trend, which is really about a lack of structure, might be a resurgence of interest in unlined and unpadded styles, as opposed to a return to that push-up heavily padded style."

We say bring it on—especially if it makes our July commute just that little bit more bearable.

Below, shop the best and most breathable bras of the season, from all-star brands like Aerie, Lonely, and Negative.
