Travel Makeup Essentials

I'm off on a mini vacation this weekend to Calgary to visit one of my besties. I thought I might as well get my travel makeup items down pat, and share a post about it!

Basically this is what I need for my basic face, (BASIC BITCH MUCH)
I'll include the current products I've been liking, but basically just piece together your favourites in each category:

Moisturizer! Not really a makeup item, but still essential for getting your makeup to apply properly, especially in an unfamiliar environment. I've been using the Simple brand moisturizer with SPF15.

Foundation: I've been loving the Maybelline Fit Me! Matte Poreless, it seems to be doing a pretty good job at staying on my oily skin in this insane heatwave we have been having here in BC (35-40 degrees!) I use a damp sponge to apply this, usually my Real Techniques Beauty Blender dupe.

Concealer: I've been using the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer, but to be honest I'm not loving it. I grabbed the lightest shade and I think it is still a little too dark for me, and too yellow. It also doesn't seem to have the greatest staying power for oily skin, and it is more of a medium coverage. Not great over blemishes. I have been avoiding buying the Nars Radiant Creamy concealer again, since it is so pricey, but honestly I think it is the best I've tried. Will be picking one up when Mariam and I go shopping.

Powder: I've been using the Maybelling Fit Me Powder, not super crazy about this one. I tried it out because I love the foundation so much (I'm on my third bottle) but the power does not have great staying power. It might be nice as something to carry in your purse to touch up shiny spots throughotu the day. I'm going to be looking for a new setting powder when Mariam and I go shopping during my trip. I like to use my Bare Minerals Flawless Face Brush for my powder.

Eyebrows! I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in Medium Brown, when my hair is lighter, and Ebony when I've got it darker. I think I want to pick up a pencil to add to my brow routine though, because I'm not doing so well at the front inner ends of my brows with the dipbrow, I feel like it always ends up too rectangular. At this point, the dipbrow song probably sounds like a broken record but it seriously is a GREAT product. My skin is SO FRICKIN OILY and this shit stays on no matter what. I just apply this with their recommended brush, I think its number 12.

Eyelid primer: a must for my and my oily as fuck lids. I use the UD Primer Potion, but have also loved the Elf $1 primer, I just can't find it in my area anymore.

Eyeshadows: So I have ordered the UD Naked On The Run palette, specifically for this trip (dork, know), but there is a chance that it might not arrive in time. It is supposed to arrive tomorrow, and I'm leaving tomorrow night, so fingers and toes crossed!! In case it doesn't show up, I'll be taking either my Naked 2 Basics or just my regular Naked 2. Not sure, maybe both, I don't know I love them both so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@$@#%#$^

I'm going to bring my Crown Brush double ended shadow brush with me for this, because it has a pencil tip at one end and a big fluffly blending brush on the other. Perfect shadow brush!

Liner: I'm bringing just a random black kohl for my waterline/tightlining, and then Kat Von D Ink Liner in Trooper. I know everyone loves the Tattoo liner, and it is great, but I honestly like the firm point of the felt liner in the Ink liner better for my wings. The swishy brush on the Tattoo liner is nice for the inner corner and first half of the lid though. Honestly sometimes I use the both. The formulas are the bomb though.

Mascara: I've said it before, I'll say it again, I might say it forever, I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR DESIGNER MASCARA. I think they are all the same shit, and spending more than $12 on a mascara is a waste of money. I tend to use whatever I've received in a sample/bonus/beauty box, or I buy whatever is the latest thing I've seen a commercial for. Right now its Covergirl Lash Bloom, the one with Katy Perry in the ad (duh). I also tend to wear false lashes a lot. Almost daily. I know this isn't an everyday thing for many people, but I've gotten so quick at putting them on, and they look so much better. I'll be bringing 1-2 sets of falsies with me and my DUO lash glue in black. Oh and a lash curler.

Bronzer/Blush: HOPEFULLY my Naked travel palette shows up, in which case I'll just use the ones that come with it, if not, I'll bring my Benefit Dallas bronzer, and a cheap Elf Coral Blush I've had forever. I'll bring my Real Techs Contour Brush from the Core Collection for this. I can use it for everything to do with bronzer/blush.

Highlighter: Mac Soft & Gentle, forever and always my fave highlight. Applied with my Real Techs Fan Brush.

Then for lips I'm just going to bring a selection of colours for a few occasions, I'm thinking I'll bring my Revlon Moisture Stain in Cannes Crush, Lime Crime Salem and Black Velvet, Nyx SMLC in London and maybe a red. As a versatile lip liner I'll bring my Nyx Wonder Pencil. Or maybe the UD Clear 24/7 liner I just got in an ipsy bag.

And thats it! My travel makeup. It might seem like a lot, but it doesn't take up much room, and with practice I've gotten my face routine down to about 35 minutes. I'll update with a review if my Naked On The Run Palette shows up in time!
