Happy Sunday, everyone! Hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend so far! Today I have two useful ideas for you. First one is a one-day getaway idea if you’d like to escape the crowds of New York; second one is the idea what to wear for a day full of wandering around.
New York is a wonderful city and you can never get enough of it or stop exploring it, but sometimes you want a change of scenery for a day anyway. In this case,
Beacon, NY is a great place to go for a huge contemporary art museum,
Dia:Beacon, lots of small galleries and shops along the quaint Main Street, and just small town charm. It’s an about ninety minutes ride from New York; and no worries if you don’t have a car, Beacon sits on the Metro-North commuter rail line offering visitors and residents an easy in and out of the town, trains run hourly in either direction during the day.
I try to visit Beacon at least once a year, generally in the summertime. My plan for a day is usually the following… First, I go to the
Dia:Beacon museum which galleries are lit almost entirely by natural light, so the sooner you’re there the better. It’s prohibited to take pictures inside the museum, but I haven’t seen even one person yet who wouldn’t secretly try to take one or two with their phones. Hello social media! :) I couldn’t resist as well, and here are mine Instagram posts that will give you the impression of what you’ll see inside -
one,
two,
three,
four. After the injection of art, I aim for another drug – coffee – which is absolutely fabulous at the
Bank Square Coffeehouse. From there I start my walk down Main Street, visiting numerous small galleries and shops along my way, and keep walking all the way down to a small
waterfall. Final step is dinner, of course. For example, at the
Cafe Amarcord; carrot and ginger
soup and
scallops with avocado and corn were very delicious last time I was there. This plan never fails and I’m always happy at the end of the day! :)
It’s obvious, that such a long day of exploring requires a comfortable outfit. In my case, comfortable is also stylish and beautiful, so I opted for a pair of time-tasted and very comfortable
GAP khakis and floral print
ASOS espadrilles, adding a plain but quite bright top and a white cardigan and bag to balance the color palette and be prepared for a temperature change throughout the day. Voilà, the perfect summer outfit for a one-day getaway!
By the way, I’m deeply in love with these
GAP khakis. I own them in three different colors, and they’re always among the clothes I reach first when I need something comfy to wear or have very little time to get dressed. And if you’d like more ideas on how to style a pair of khaki pants, check these outfits out (click on the thumbnail image to jump to the desired post):
