Given that our fave celebs are interviewed on everything from their latest movie to their diet secrets to their Bachelorette favorites (#teambritt over here), of course they’d have a few things to say on parenthood. Today we take a closer look at some of their pearls of wisdom.

Savannah Guthrie: “When you’re a new parent, you hear the same advice over and over again – probably because most of the “clichés” are true. The truest thing I’ve heard is how it all goes by so quickly, how it truly is such a blur.”

Kevin Bacon: “The phases will drive you up a wall, you’ll be like, ‘I cannot take the whatever it is, the colicky phase, the diaper phase,’ and they keep going … they pass, and nobody ever tells you that in the books. This too shall pass.”

Reese Witherspoon: “We always talk about in our house, the more people that love you, the better your life is.”

Ryan Reynolds: “I used to say to her (Blake), ‘I would take a bullet for you. I could never love anything as much as I love you.’ And then the second I looked in that baby’s eyes, I knew in that exact moment, if we were ever under attack, I would use my wife as a human shield to protect that baby.”

Salma Hayek: “When Valentina was not even one month old, my aunt (gave me the best advice): ‘Put her to sleep yourself every night. Sing to her and cradle her in your arms and sit by her side — every night.’ Because one day you won’t be able to, and it’s going to happen really fast.”

Johnny Depp: “I think it’s important to allow your kids to make their own decisions and experience the sort of repercussions of what might happen. I wouldn’t say I was a very strict, strict dad.”

Nicole Richie: “Kids are so funny. My mom told me you should write down every cute thing that they do because you will forget. Joel and I really write down every adorable thing they do and save them.”

Chris Rock: “Every day I’m proud to be a dad. When you have kids, there’s no such thing as quality time. There’s just time. There’s no, ‘Ooh, his graduation’s better than going to the mall.’ It’s all kind of equal. Changing her diaper and her winning a contest — it’s all good.”
