The Perfect Weekend
After getting married in May, I can’t even count the amount of times I was asked if I had enjoyed my honeymoon and where had we gone. My answer was always “Oh..! We haven’t booked anything yet…”. As I travel so often, and we got married abroad, there wasn’t an itch to get away as soon as possible (I think we were probably looking forward to spending time doing nothing at home more than anything), and with Miguel’s work schedule, there wasn’t a chance that we’d be able to head anywhere far-flung until later in the year, so we came up with a compromise.
To take a weekend out and celebrate both our marriage and 10 year anniversary, Miguel and I booked a weekend not too far from London at Cliveden House in Berkshire. It was a rather pricey affair, but something we wanted to treat ourselves too, so opted for all the finest things they had to offer – a hot tub on our terrace, a massage at the spa, a picnic on the lawn, and a room with a pink headboard. A headboard I loved so much, it deserves it’s own half a post (I’m sure you’ll agree!)
After a night eating room service and watching Celebrity Big Brother (we’re a classy pair), we were well-rested and ready for a day of…well…more rest. After our picnic, we explored the historic grounds, strolling through the rose garden, catching Pokemon as we went. The afternoon saw the sun come out, which meant we could tan by the pool in the walled garden (who needs a trip halfway across the world, eh?). We stayed until the sun set and it was time for dinner.
On our last day we had one last dip in the hot tub before checking out and putting our walking shoes on. We walked for miles along the Thames, stopping to look at the swans and boats, before we tired ourselves out and found a local pub to fill up on Sunday Roast. I was ticking off my favourite things to do on a weekend, and as far as I’m concerned, Yorkshire puddings should always be involved.
Totally full but very happy indeed, we went back to grab our suitcase and head back to the big smoke. I honestly couldn’t have wished for a better weekend, and I’m so glad we did it.
Watch this space for the real deal – the Honeymoon has finally been booked!
