Test Drive

Cinquecento

If you follow me over on Instagram, you might have noticed over the years that I have a bit of a thing for cute modes of transportation, from little bikes with baskets to candy-coloured vintage cars. Although the Citroen 2CV probably holds the record for the car I’ve photographed the most, the little Fiat 500 Cinquino comes a close second, so when I was invited to give the latest model a test drive around it’s hometown of Torino in Italy, I was totally up for it.

I say test drive…but see, I never actually learned how to drive. So I dragged along my pal Reem to be my chauffeur for the day, and then thought I’d dress appropriately as a vaguely glam sidekick as we drove through the Italian countryside (with the top down, of course)

Now, I don’t know a huge amount about cars, but this one felt pretty good as we whizzed through the roads with the wind in our hair. I was on entertainment duty, which meant twiddling some buttons and working out which music from my phone I could get away with playing in front of Reem (me and my friends don’t really share a taste in music..!).

We pulled over when we saw this little dirt road and used it as an excuse to pose with our new shiny coral friend (yep, it’s not a bright red, but a coral, cool eh?) – I’m no stranger to posing with cars, but this time I actually had permission so went all out without worrying the owner was going to show up and tell me off…!

There is no doubt that if I started to drive, I would make this car mine. It’s the perfect little getaround for cities, and I adore that it’s still maintained the look and feel of the original car from the ’50s.

Now how much do driving lessons cost again?
