Tokyo DisneySea

The happiest place on earth

Oh my. Tokyo Disneysea blew my mind. I hesitated for about five minutes when thinking about using up a day of our week in Tokyo to visit Disneyland, but the Tokyo Disneysea park is the only one in the world, so it had to be done at some point…!

My first ever Disneyland experience was just a couple of years ago in California, and I almost cried with happiness as soon as I entered. The feeling here was pretty similar. We got up extra early and made our way to the park by train – our plan was to get to the popular Toy Story Mania ride to grab a fastpass (this ride is known to have queues of 2 hours and up!) – by the time we’d arrived the passes were being given out for 7:30pm…I had no problem with staying here until closing time, so we stashed our passes and started exploring the park.

Sadly it was raining during our visit, but this is the happiest place on earth (well, one of them…) afterall, so everybody kept smiling regardless.

Something that I loved about experiencing Disney in Tokyo was how seriously these guys take dressing up! Whole friendship groups would be in matching or coordinating clothing, or dressed as their favourite characters. Even the guys. In fact, you stand out if you’re not wearing some sort of Disney paraphernalia, which is why I was glad to have brought this outfit with me!

I’ve thought about this place almost every say since. Can I live there, please?!

Planning a trip?

• If you’re like me and assumed that you could probably pay to buy park tickets with your debit card, think again – we were totally stung and had to make our way back on the park shuttle to find an ATM to get out cash. So much for getting up early..!

• Get fastpass tickets for Toy Story Mania, Journey to the Center of the Earth & Tower of Terror. And the Indiana Jones ride is always a hit!

• Buy a popcorn bucket! This was like a dream for Miguel. They have themed popcorn buckets in the shape of your favourite characters, and you can refill them with different flavours at stands around the park. Caramel & White Chocolate were our faves!

• Stay until 8pm to see the magical show on the lake – it’s absolutely beautiful.

• Wear a crazy Disney-themed outfit!
