I mentioned that I have the exciting opportunity review Do Over: Rescue Monday, Reinvent Your Work, and Never Get Stuck by Jon Acuff on Facebook. Family Christian was so kind to offer me this opportunity and provide me with a book for review. While in graduate school, I worked in the Career Services office for a short period of time. I think this type of concept would have been valuable to present to people a decade ago! I’ve had a lot of do overs in my own life, so this book is very relevant to me and hope it will encourage you as well.
In the event you are not familiar with Jon Acuff, I will introduce you. He is a blogger, public speaker, and consultant. You may already read his popular blog, Stuff Christians Like. If you don’t, you should. It’s hilarious. His business blog is acuff.me. He’s also the author of the New York Times Best Seller Start: Punch Fear in the Face, Escape Average and Do Work that Matters and Quitter: Closing the Gap Between Your Day Job & Your Dream Job. So, in other words, he’s kind of a big deal.
In his new book Do Over: Rescue Monday, Reinvent Your Work, and Never Get Stuck he shares a concept called The Career Savings Account and then presents four types of investments that matter: relationships, skills, character, and hustle. As he describes himself (on page 2), “This book is about intentionally building a career using the four investments every extraordinary career has in common.” The book is filled with stories about his own experiences and those of his friends. It paints a picture of how to apply the concepts to your own life and career.
