Nineteen Weeks

We had the anatomy scan last Tuesday afternoon and everything is looking great! We got to confirm that our baby is indeed a little man, and get a really detailed look at everything going on in there. We saw all four chambers of his heart, his brain, two kidneys, his stomach and bladder, his arms, legs, hands and feet, his spine and little nose and lips, his umbilical cord and insertion site, my placenta (which is anterior, btw), and we even saw his little tongue moving when he was swallowing some of the amniotic fluid.

It's just crazy to me that we can even SEE anything. I still haven't felt any movement, but he was wiggling around like a little maniac. The tech had to chase him all over the place to get the photos she needed. It was great though. His heart beat is good and strong, everything seems to be developing on track, and he's measuring a week ahead of schedule. Both the tech and the doctor laughed when they measured the length of his femur. I guess he has loooong little legs and is definitely a "chip off the ole block".

My friend Katie came down from Portland to spend the weekend with us as well, which was so fun. We played all weekend long.. visiting the piers in town, hanging out at the Orange County Great Park for some live music and food trucks (pictures above), walking the streets and perusing the shops of Downtown Laguna Beach, laying out by the pool, and just spending lots of good time together.

And I only had to take one nap! ;) Progress people. Progress.

Weekly Stats

How far along? 19 weeks
Total weight gain: 8 pounds
Maternity clothes? The hair tie trick is still working for me for the most part.. but I am still wearing both pairs of maternity pants every week. I need to find a pair of black maternity pants (corduroys?) and I'll be in good shape for awhile.
Stretch marks? None that I have seen, but I'm still pretty small.
Sleep Habits: I may need to invest in a body pillow soon, but I'm still sleeping 8 hrs for the most part.. Occasionally I'll have a really vivid weird dream or have trouble falling asleep, but generally speaking, I'm still enjoying my sleep very much.
Best moment this week: Our anatomy scan!
Miss anything? Laying on my stomach. That's officially over.
Movement: Apparently I won't be feeling much for a few weeks yet, due to an anterior placenta. Silly thing getting in the way! But the scan last week confirmed that he is healthy and growing and moving all over the place. He's certainly an active little guy.
Food cravings: No cravings that I can think of. But I am so hungry. All the time.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Every so often I'll notice that I just feel "off" or "not well" and need to lay down, but I don't know what the trigger is.
Gender: 100% boy, confirmed by three different techs.
Labor Signs: None
Symptoms: Most of the same. I don't think I have any new symptoms this week.
Belly Button in or out? In
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy! I'm finally starting to feel back to my old self. I know it sounds silly, but I got my haircut last week, and after spending months growing out this fiasco, I'm finally feeling more confident with the cut. I'm also feeling like I'm starting to have a baby belly instead of just bloat (though some would disagree with me), and my energy is returning bit by bit. I also talked to my work about maternity leave, and everything I requested was approved! That sets my mind at ease, and feels like a huge step in the right direction.
Looking forward to: Finally feeling this baby move and watching my belly grow.
