Organizing your make up with Z-Palette

I love my all my eye shadow palettes, but truth be told, I usually only use a few from each set. With my up coming travels, I decided it was finally time for me to get organized and find a way to put together my essentials instead of having to travel with a several palettes.

What is the Z Palette?

The solution to my problem! Z palettes allow you to customize, simplify, and organize makeup of any brand in one sleek palette while downsizing bulky packaging and making touch-ups on the go a breeze. The Z Palette is the makeup palette features a clear window and an open magnetic base to fit any size shadow, blush, bronzer, and even some foundations. You can replace the colors in your makeup palette as often as you would like and interchange them for any occasion. Z palettes are perfect for storing refill versions of your favorite products, is eco-friendly, and is great for traveling.

Earlier this year Sephora started carrying 2 sizes of Z palettes: a small size (3 14/16” X 3 14/16 ” X 3/4”) and a dome size (8” X 5 6/16” X 3/4”) which is about double the size of the small. I decided to go with the smaller palette since I plan to be travelling, but I think the dome size is a perfect size if you want to carry blushes and powders in addition to your eyeshadows. It comes with metal stickers to magnetize non-metal pans instantly and a metal tool to help you remove your eyeshadows. The original Z palette brand also features more size ranges if you’re looking for larger palettes. They run in the range of $20-35 Canadian or about $12-30 in US dollars.

How to depot eyeshadows

Now on to the fun part, depotting my eye shadows to create my new custom palette! So after after trying a few different methods. I’ll share the method that I found best, and resulted with the least damage to my eye shadows.

First off, instead of using the tool that came with the set, I opted to an box cutter. I found the blade to be much thinner and perfect for getting in between the edges of the eyeshadows pans.

Step 1: Loosening the eyeshadow pan
Take a look at your eyeshadow, and see if there are areas with a slightly larger gap between the pan and the frame. Take your box cutter and gently wiggle it into the gap. Then proceed to loosen the pan give by giving it few more wiggles. The key is patience and small wiggles!

Step 2: Removing your eyeshadow pans
Once you have your eyeshadow pan loosened you should be able to easily lift it out. Now on to depotting the next shadow!

Step 3: Organize your eye shadow palette
Once you have all your shadows depotted, reorganize your favorites into your Z palette. Here are my favorite shadows from my Urban Decay Naked 2 and Naked 3 palettes.

The small Z palette I used here fits exactly one Urban Decay Naked palette. So I returned my remaining shadows back into my old Naked 3 palette for storage. Overall I’m really happy with my new palette. The only thing I miss is having a mirror on the inside of the cover.
