Wedding Countdown: 9 Months To Go

If I thought the previous month went by fast, this month went by even faster! I was doing some travelling this past month, so I didn’t get a chance to do as much wedding planning as I hoped for. But I did manage to get a few things crossed off my list!

Make sure you follow along with me in my wedding series, where I’ll be making a monthly countdown post on wedding planning journey, as well as DIY wedding posts with more details of my wedding planning experiences.

So with 9 months to go, here’s what I’ve completed off my wedding checklist this past month:

1. Engagement Photos in Paris

I had been looking forward to doing our engagement photos for months! It’s always been my dream to do a photo shoot in a Paris. It was the perfect backdrop for our engagement shoot. Our photographer was Hannah from Wedding Belles. She was absolutely lovely and we all had such a fun time walking around the city and shooting! We had the opportunity to shoot so many great locations including the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Ponte Alexandre III, as well as along the Seine River, and some fun street and cafe shots. I’ve actually just received the photos this week and I’m so thrilled with the results! Below is a peak of one of my favorite shots!

2. Flowers

Flowers were just one of those things I knew I would just love to DIY, so I’ve decided to plan to put together my own flowers for our wedding in Toronto. I haven’t decided if I’m going to have fresh flowers or experiment with making fabric flowers, but I’m really looking forward to figuring it out!

As for our Vancouver wedding, we decided it would just be too difficult to do flowers myself because of the travel and time constraints. After checking out some recommendations and a little looking around, we’ve decided to go with Flower Factory. My wedding planner only had great things to say about them, and I loved almost every single one of their Instagram pictures, so I think we made the right choice.

Below is a fabric flower I’ve made from crepe fabric. I love how it turned out, but it took me nearly 30-40 minutes just to make this one rose. So maybe fresh flowers might be a better option… we’ll have to decide in the coming montth.

3. Catering

This was an easy one for us. For the Vancouver wedding, we just decided to go with the in-house catering that Hycroft provided. Since we are planning from across the country, we wanted to keep things as simple as possible and we would have one less vendor to deal with. As for our Toronto wedding, our reception is being conveniently being held at a restaurant, so the food situation was all taken care of already.

4. Exploring options for decor

This month, we spent a lot of time discovering what kind of decor we actually wanted. From table cloths to chair covers and table settings, there are just so many options and sometimes all the little details make all the difference! I never knew deciding something as simple as picking chair covers could be so difficult. I think we’ve got it down to the general idea of the look we want. Originally, I wanted more of a vintage romantic look, but I think in the end we discovered that a more elegant look was really more our style. We’ll probably make a final decision and put down our deposits next month.

Well that rounds it up for this past month. This up coming month is going to be a busy with Christmas and the holidays just around the corner. Not to mention, we’ll be moving to a new home as well! All very exciting stuff!

Up on the wedding to do list for next month:

  1. Music
  2. Save the Dates / Invites
  3. Finalize and book decor
  4. Start looking at bridesmaid dresses
