La Mode Outré (said la-mode-oo-tray) is an Asian street style site that is run solely by myself, James Bent - I’m a British Photographer living and travelling across Asia, together with my partner Stacey Young who runs her own street style site StyleSophomore. La Mode Outré started back in January of 2010. Stacey had been suggesting I go out onto the streets and take photos of people because I used to write short stories for which I used photographs of people (mainly from a book I discovered while living in Sydney, Australia, by The Sartorialist - at the time unknown to me) to base characters on. Then it just kind of grew and changed over time into a street style site and from there it’s taken on a life of it’s own to some extent. I’ve been asked quite frequently what I look for when I’m out taking street fashion photographs, and it’s always a difficult question to answer. In fact, I don’t think I look for anything specific, but more general concepts such as charm, mood, sexiness and character; and cut, fit, design and form.
