LOS ANGELES LIBRARY AND HISTORIC LIBRARIES

I love history.

There’s something special about identifying with people from the past…wondering if we had the chance to go back with today’s knowledge, would we have altered the future differently? When I wear vintage clothing like the dress I’m wearing – from the 1920′s, I imagine the life of the woman who wore it from the past. Will someone in the future be wearing my dresses?

History isn’t history. It isn’t gone forever or forgotten.

It remains tangible in vintage clothing, historic buildings and particularly books.

What better place to see history then this place….

The Los Angeles Public Library.

Built in 1926, this is the south side entrance. Nearly torn down, burnt to the ground, it stands strong today and hopefully for a very long time.

One of my favorite features of the entire building is this incredible ceiling.

And the illuminated chandelier globe adorned by zodiac symbols.

Books have the power to educate, enrich and transport you to an entirely new world. But the libraries that house them can also do that. Take a look at some of the most incredibly beautiful, ornate historic libraries around the world some centuries old. Let these rooms take your mind on an adventure into the past….

That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you’re not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong. — F. Scott Fitzgerald
