Getting To Where You Want to Be In Life

Like all teenagers, we automatically assume that work experience is just an opportunity to get out of school and away from homework, however, I never thought ‘work’ could actually be this fun! Being a creative person, going to a photography studio was definitely the perfect choice for me. I learn’t so many useful tips from the technical side of things, to the editing side and also taking that perfect shot! ..my photos should hopefully be a lot better from now on!..

I now have a basic understanding of multiple photo editing software’s, such as Photoshop, Bridge and Lightroom, meaning that in the future I will be able to successfully shrink photos, adjust white balance, contrast and temperature to a more professional standard..exciting stuff!..Also I now understand ISO, aperture priority and all those scary things that the majority have no clue about.

Having this experience and the chance to be in the ‘photographers shoes’ has definitely been an eye opener for me, therefore I highly recommend putting a lot of thought into where you want to be in the future. Then try to get as much experience as you can and use that as your first step along your chosen career path and how discover what it’s like to work in that certain environment and then that might help you understand if that career is right for you.

Also, learning from my older sibling’s; the more experience the better. Therefore, after work experience, ask to return after school/college, in the holidays and also weekends, just to put yourself out there and gain that all important experience, as this will help a lot when getting to where you want to be..basically fill your CV up with as much experience and skills as you can, to make you stand out from other interviewees..

This is only one of the small ways in which you can set yourself apart from others similar to you, nevertheless, still a very important thing to keep in mind.

Experiencing something that may be your dream job can sometimes turn out to be the worst possible career for you. So before you take a 2 year commitment studying or training; experience it upfront, giving you a wider understanding of that area and an insight as whether it’s for you or not.

Luckily enough for me, this has been even better than what I expected, and I will continue to carry on my passion for photography and link that in as much as I can with my dreams and aspirations of becoming a fashion journalist.

Thank you so much for reading!
