O Come let us adore Him…

After we returned from Disneyland, we had about 14 hours to unpack, repack, and sleep. Julia was headed to a youth group retreat and I, because I am absolutely nuts, agreed to chaperone. This wasn’t just any conference. This was Steubenville West.

“Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For the Lord God is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.” Isaiah 12:2

I loaded a bus with about 20 other people and headed to Tucson. The boys were in the loving care of my mom (thank you, mom!) and I was hoping for a nap on the bus.

Instead, I joined the teens in some seriously awesome plans to surprise people with cards (my love language!).

I could share with you how I felt free to be myself. I could share with you how amazingly gracious Julia was about having me along (I kept sitting in the back and she would come get me to join everyone). I could share with you how Matt Fradd made me almost fall out of my chair laughing.

But what I have to tell you… what I must share with you is how truly moved I was during Adoration.

I know. Every so often, after posts of Disneyland and Arizona and recipes, I remind you that I am a Catholic Christian.

Now for our hypothetical conversation:

What is adoration?

During Eucharistic adoration, Catholics pray before the actual body of Christ. It is one of the most solemn prayer rituals of the faith.

You believe it is the actual body of Christ?

From John 6:

53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; 54 he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

Ok, but He meant symbolically, right?

No. Hang in there and keep on reading John 6.

60 Many of his disciples, when they heard it, said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” 61 But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at it, said to them, “Do you take offense at this?

Wait. Are you saying you actually believe it is the body and the blood?

Yes! Finish John 6. Do you see that many of His disciples left after he said this? He knew that we would struggle with this.

This is where it gets exciting – Peter believes it is the true body and blood!

66 After this many of his disciples drew back and no longer went about with him. 67 Jesus said to the twelve, “Will you also go away?” 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life; 69 and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”

Father Louis walked through the crowd, holding the most sacred Eucharist.

As he passed by me, I was overcome with hope and beauty and truth. I have no doubt that I was in the presence of Christ.

Do you know that I hope this for you as well. I hope that you are overcome with beauty and love.

Have a wonderful weekend friends,

Kate
