33 Things Before 33 // #14 Read Often

My list of things that I had hoped to accomplish by my birthday at the end of this year has been neglected. Last year, I kicked butt on my 32 Things list. Life decided to give me many curves balls in 2014 making it much harder to find time to focus on my goals. However, the year is not over yet! I'm finally working on #14 Read Often!

Happier At Home by Gretchen Rubin
I enjoy reading self-help books, GUILTY! I've been in a bit of a depression for months now and I'm seeking ways to deal with it. I've found some great titles that seem to be helping me focus on the "now" and finally shake off my blues. I feel like reading is a very calming thing to do. I need some calm in my life so this is why reading often is on my 33 Things list.

The Emotional Calendar by John R. Sharp
The way some people read books amazes me. They can read a book in a day and read many in a week! Not me, I'm slow and often fall asleep while reading. I was also the kid in school that dreaded reading out loud. Reading hasn't always been my thing, but I'm definitely embracing it now. I've also taken up going to the park with a book. I get to enjoy the outdoors and relax with a book at the same time.

Vader's Little Princess by Jeffrey Brown
Thanks to Cazz, I have also been inspired to read comics. Our library has a limited selection, but it's a start. Since I hate buying stuff, if it ain't at the library or borrowed from somebody, I'm not reading it. If I get to Portland, I'm pretty sure my selection will be amazing.

In conclusion, it feels pretty awesome to pick up a book and just sit and read. I also love the feeling of learning and opening my mind to new things. :) It's a win win situation.
