Nicholas K – The Explorer

When I have to go to an upcoming designer’s show I always sneak a little bit on google, because I have this big curiosity about their lives and how they became part of the fashion industry. Sometimes it is surprisingly amazing what you find out.

The same thing I did with the design duo Nicholas and Christopher Kunz. Two siblings that perfectly combined the artistic mind of Nicholas L Kunz who has worked for many design companies before and the entrepreneur mind of Christopher L Kunz who guided early stage companies on their way through the business world.

For their collection of the Spring Summer 2015 the duo take us far far away in the desert world by pointing out our adventurous soul who was hidden somewhere deep inside. They were inspired by the explorer Isabelle Eberhart who’s story needs to be known by everyone. She left Geneva at an early age for North Africa dressed as a man and through her life she fought against the injustices of colonial rule and helped the poor and needy people.

Inspired from Erberhardt’s journey around North Africa the designers created a collection for the urban female explorer by bringing into the runway leather shawls, sheer cotton dresses, jerseys and some beautiful pieces made of silk that already give you the comfort you need when you wear something. No doubt the colors are made for the Saharan environment, because they come in good harmony with the nature’s change while in the desert. Shades of emerald, olive and turquoise dominate the collection, but there is also a touch of darkness in some pieces. Leather has its own role in this collection when you can see leather belts, leather heels by Kiyoon Baek, horsetail and handmade leather jewelry by Victoria Simes and what most caught my eye the julbo vermont sunglasses, which I should be putting on my wishlist.
