We the People Fight Tyranny Game Review

Warning: this game is not for the faint of brain!

Don’t know much about American history? Don’t worry, you will after playing We the People Fight Tyranny! Try your hand at trivia and see how you fare against a society structured far from the one established by the founding fathers – all served up with a dollop of satire!

We the People Fight Tyranny is 3-8 player game with a suggested age of 15 and up. The object is to earn the most stars before someone goes bankrupt.

Starting with the appointment of a Game Czar by the roll of the dice, each player is assigned a “character” complete with Fed ID Card.

Everyone enters their “starting cash” on a score sheet and begins their trek around the outer edge of the game board.

This outer edge contains more varied opportunities for income with chances to earn stars plus pitfalls of bankruptcy and Social Justice. Along the way are chances to answer abundant trivia questions, which are the “meat” of the game.

Each card comes with answer, additional information and source used. A correct answer earns you stars.

All is well until you cross over the initial start space completing a ‘lap’. With this move, you lose 1/2 of your money……awww! Are you bankrupt yet? If so, mortgage your house and move to the circular inner path. This path is filled with Social Justice zingers (which will cost you a star each time you land on one).

The smaller track comes with the same stipulation that you loose 1/2 your money everytime you pass “start”. But this time, the money goes down the drain at a faster pace. Drat!

The first person that goes bankrupt signals the end of the game BUT the person with the most stars wins!

Our Thoughts:

Our very first thought was one of surprise because finances for the game are handled by each individual on their own score sheet. Without paper money to contend with, attention is kept on the topic of freedoms or lack there of.

I first played this game with my 2 sons. Despite being younger than the recommended age, my 13 year old did very well and enjoyed the game until he was forced into the “Social Justice track.” My older son came away feeling the same. But also noted with this social structure, the cards are stacked against you. The only way to win are through knowledge (trivia), the Word (also included in trivia) and right living (Disappoint Big Brother). Well said son!

The real fun of this game was playing with a larger crowd and then enjoying the resulting discussions from the trivia questions. This game is guaranteed to get your group talking. Priceless!

Though there was plenty of laughter in response to some of the over-the-top situations, this was a definite eye opener for my kids. Even my 11 year old joined in and gleaned how unfair “fair to all” can be.

I think everyone would benefit from this game. I’m sure it would be an eye opener for many a US citizen and then some!
