Oil cleansing method (OCM) – easy and effective

From left to right: sweet almond oil, avocado oil, cocoa butter (on top), coconut oil, shea butter and jojoba oil
These are some of the oils I use and sometimes I use a concoction of cocoa and shea butter mixed with olive oil.
I love oils. They have infinite no. of benefits and uses. Be it hair, face, eyes, eyelashes, eyebrows, body, nails to name a few – they do wonders. You need to know what the right oil is and stick to it. Not stick to the oil, haha, but stick to the oil regimen. Silly me.
One of the many oil regimens is using oil to cleanse your face and to remove makeup. It is by far the best method and I am sure there’s nothing as better and as cheaper then this around.
Call it a blessing or not, but being dry skinned has its own benefits. Slathering oils on my dry face never eeks me. But don’t you worry oily skinned ladies – there’s always a way around these wonderful oils. Your skin produces more oil only when it feels that it requires it. Why not you add that oil letting your skin know that it doesn't need to produce any more? So, good news – oil cleansing method is good for ALL. It might bother you at first but trust me the results that you see will take away all that cumbersome feeling.

Thanks to my mum, we have been doing oil cleansing since birth. However, as I grew up I stopped using oils on my face and just last year I went back to this when nothing was working out for my super dry blemished skin. Since then I have never stopped doing it.
How do I oil cleanse?
I have a lot of different oils and I keep rotating between them. So, every week or twice weekly, I would use one type of oil. You can also create your own blend of different oils. I do love using coconut oil & sometimes, would use only that for a longer time. It smells divine, it glows on my face, I love the feel of it, has long term benefits, it’s edible (don’t ask me why I mentioned that)– ah-mazing! I can go on and on about it.
Apart from this, I use jojoba, extra virgin olive oil, almond oil, castor, sesame, avocado & these are just for cleansing. :)
I have different routines for AM and PM. Of course, not even dry skins can survive the hot humid weather in India if they have oils smeared on their face. So, I have to keep it to minimal in the morning.
I will start with my PM routine.
PM:
I take some oil onto my hands, warm it up by rubbing it between my palms and then massage it over my dry face. It grabs all the makeup, dirt, impurities. Then using a damp face flannel {I use a fresh one every time – you can get these easily in any other supermarket – and they are very cheap}, I wipe it off gently over my face including eyes (to remove eye makeup) and onto my neck. Now this is the first step towards cleansing.
Next I go over again with some oil and repeat {this usually happens when my eye makeup hasn't come off completely}. This time, I use a damp cotton round and swipe it over my eyes. {Using oils to remove eye makeup can make you blurry for a few seconds. but this is alright with me. Also, it is not the case with some oils like jojoba oil. So, you have to see which suits you best.} Then wipe again with the flannel & viola! a fresh, smooth, clean, supple, happy skin is ready – to sleep. :P
AM:
In the morning, I would run only one layer of oil on my face, gently wiping it off with a damp face flannel. Then, I use a mild cleanser – right now it is the Michael Todd honey and oat cleanser. This takes away any oil left on my face yet keeping my skin soft and not dry – which I normally feel without using oils. Then, I follow with my usual skincare and makeup routine.
I love this and I don’t have anything but hormonal breakouts. My skin tone has cleared out, I rarely ever get a blemish and I wake up to a radiant skin every time I use it. It removes my makeup thoroughly just like any other cleanser would do. Plus, you save a lot of money on those expensive chemically damaging cleansers. Trust me, oils are so good and you will never want to go back to anything else. I recommend you throw away all those cleansers that have alcohol and what not. Certainly, there should be some good cleansers out there as well, but why not try something from the kitchen? You can never go wrong with oil on your face. So many oils are available these days. Try them out and see what works for you & it will make your life so much easier. You’re welcome ;)
