Konjac Sponge - My experience

Like a body loofah, Konjac sponge is a loofah for face. Konjac sponge is a 100% natural sponge, 100% colouring free, biodegradable, made from natural vegetable fibre & hence, naturally deep cleansing. They come in different forms to suit every type of skin type.
I bought the one with mineral rich French red clay which is meant for dry and sensitive skin. Konjac claims this is a "fabulous deep cleansing, gentle exfoliating, facial sponge with French red clay. This is similar in properties to French green with the color difference being attributed to a higher presence of iron oxide. Red clay cleans out the skin from the layers of dead keratinized cells and it accelerates the regeneration process. It is said to improve blood circulation and makes the skin look radiant, and hydrated, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and broken capillaries.So perfect for dryer or mature skin that needs rejuvenating."
I was looking for a brush to use on my face for proper cleansing. I thought about Clarisonic but it wasn’t available here and getting it from other country would be too expensive. Besides, I am a little scared when it comes to using electrical on my face. Anyway, so during my search I found this sponge. A face brush can be very harsh to your face. So, I liked the idea of getting a sponge instead.
This sponge is also made from natural ingredients and that was the biggest plus point to me. I love natural products. Always prefer natural over chemicals. {confession: sometimes I do like chemical rich products, guess we thrive on them :P}
With so many options available as per your skin type, with the natural ingredients and that it was a sponge and you cannot expect it to be harsh on your skin just like in case of a brush, how could I resist from trying it. Other positives are that this is naturally sustainable and environmentally safe. How can you say no to something like this. Also, it isn’t expensive at all, like Clarisonic.
The sponge comes in a plastic packaging. When I opened it, sponge was moist and not hard. However, after use, it dries as hard.
This sponge is extremely soft. I use it only for my face, but you can use it on your body as well. However, they have a separate one for body and for babies as well. This exfoliates your skin but in a gentle manner. I use it both with or without cleanser. I dampen the sponge & when it has expanded to its full size and is very soft to touch, it is ready to be used. I Squeeze out the excess water and pour a drop or two of the cleanser, or not, on it and start moving it across my face in circular massaging motion. This easily gets around the nose as well. Does not feel harsh at all, but like damp muslin moving around my face, in fact softer than that. You don’t need a lot of time with this. I use it for 20-30 secs. only. You can go lesser also, if you are running out of time. After rinsing, my face feels refreshed and radiant. I see the difference immediately. I love how it feels on my skin.
This however, did not remove my makeup properly. So, I still have to use something extra first to remove my makeup and then the sponge.
After use, you can run it under a faucet and just gently squeeze it between your hands but don’t wring it as this will shorten its lifespan. It is suggested to let it air dry. But I like to dry this under sunlight. Feels cleaner and fresher, gives me a spa like after-effect. A sponge can be a breeding ground for bacteria and sunlight is best to take care of that. However, during winter, you can also microwave it for a minute, in the same way you sterilize cotton. This also has a thread attached through it, which you can use to hang it around your bathroom or while drying. Or more simply, use warm water, but not always as that might ruin the sponge.
I have used this for about 1 month now, twice a day every day and I can see my skin getting better with time. It is supposed to be replaced after every 3 months, but I think it can last longer than that. Just compost it when you are ready to get a new one.
Overall, it is fun to use, is 100% natural, does not irritate my sensitive skin and my face feels fresh after use. For extra exfoliation, I use a scrub instead of a cleanser applied with this sponge. I might get one meant for body as well. That would be perfect combination. I am obsessed with this sponge. I highly recommend this. Quick and easy to use. There’s one for each skin type. You won’t be disappointed. A healthy skin in a natural and affordable way.
