Harry | 10 Month Update

Dear Harry,

You are 10 months, 10, how and when did that happen? I know i say it every month but time is passing so quickly and you are growing up so fast that i can barely keep up. I simply cannot believe that in 2 months time (less than that actually as mummy is late with this update) we will be celebrating your 1st birthday.

Your personality is beginning to shine through even more, you are cheekier than ever and a very inquisitive little boy my darling, exploring EVERYTHING you can get your hands on. You love to discover new things and are fiercely independent. It’s like you have suddenly seen the world in a new light and are desperate to find out all about it. You’re never in one place for too long and although still not crawling properly (you are so close!) it’s safe to say you are most definitely a professional bum shuffler, commando crawler and roller at this point. You have a look of constant determination on your face and get around the room by any means possible.

I say it most days but you are SO not like your brother and it gets more and more evident as you grow. Riley has always been a confident boy but you take it to a whole new level and you demand to be the centre of attention at all times. You have no qualms about being loud and proud wherever you are and are constantly making noises, grunts, growls and high pitched squeals until you get what you want. It’s funny to a certain extent as it’s clear to us all that you don’t like to be ignored but with that new found attitude comes something that mummy is not particularly overjoyed about – DIVA TANTRUMS! Boy do you know how to throw a hissy fit Harry, especially when you don’t get your own way or i say no to something! This is completely new territory to me as your brother was always so placid and laid back towards everything, so i’m really hoping it’s just a phase of you testing the boundaries.

Weaning is another area that the two of you couldn’t be more different in. It was a fun experience with Riley and one that he enjoyed from the outset but with you it is a daily struggle and battle of wills. You have no interest in food whatsoever and will scream from the moment you’re placed in the highchair to the moment someone lets you out. You clench your mouth tightly shut and even tiny remnants of food i can get in to your mouth, you spit straight back out anyway. That being said you are more open to trying finger foods so we are taking a baby-led waning approach with you now. I know you’re getting enough nutrients because you’re growing at a rate of knots but it does concern me that you’re not getting a balanced enough diet.

Sleep is still great and is a HUGE contrast to those newborn months! You now only have one nap during the day, usually between 11-1 and will go down for the night at 6.30pm. Riley has dropped his daytime nap so is now going to bed at the same time as you, as opposed to 9-9.30pm which is bliss for me as i now have an entire evening to myself and that extra couple of hours makes such a difference. You wake in the morning for a bottle anywhere between 5-6am but will usually go back down to sleep for a couple more hours. Your brother and you definitely have some sort of body clock ‘thing’ going on because you will wake at the same time as each other every morning without fail.

The two of you continue to be the best of friends, although he does have the rare spiteful moment towards you. For the most part, you are happy to be in each other’s company and he really does adore you, as you do him. I can’t tell you how wonderful it is for me to sit and watch the two of you interacting with each other, i always hoped that having two boys so close in age would be amazing and it really is! It’s like you’ve formed your own way of communicating with each other that mummy doesn’t know about as you are forever laughing at him and he at you.

THIS MONTH’S MILESTONES AND DEVELOPMENTS

  • You are scooting, bum shuffling, commando crawling and rolling.
  • You love to look at picture books with mummy.
