10 Ways To Tidy With The Kids In Tow

As a young mother of two children, it can be quite a challenge to keep the house tidy at all times.

Cleaning is a chore that many of us wish we could completely forget about, but this just isn’t possible. Oh how I yearn for the days when all of these boring tasks were taken care of for me.

As any mothers reading this will know, kids need constant attention, and this gives you even less time to get your house gleaming. I’ve had to adapt and think of new ways to carry out my household jobs while also keeping my beloved children happy. It’s quite the juggling act, but it is doable! Here are ten tips that could work for you.

Plan ahead – draw up a schedule

Of course, it can be hard to predict what a baby is going to do. You never know when they are going to be sleeping (chances are it will not be when the adults in the house are trying to sleep!). Once they get a little older, you will find it easier to plan your jobs for when they will be asleep or at school.

Get them involved

I’m not suggesting you force your three-year-old to vacuum the whole of your house, but there are ways they can help you with the cleaning. Let them loose with the mop or give them a cloth and ask them to copy you. You’ll get the cleaning done quicker, you’ll be keeping them entertained and they’ll learn new skills.

Make it fun!

Cutting sponges into dinosaur shapes is fun for people of all ages. Just saying!

Mop-based baby grows

You can buy cleaning products for all purposes these days, but did you know that there are cute little baby grows that have a mop on the front? As your tot is crawling around, they are actually doing a darn fine job of sweeping up. Just make sure you change them regularly for hygiene purposes!

Teaching valuable life lessons

You can teach your children the value of working to earn money. Once they are a certain age, you can give them treats or pocket money when they complete some household chores.

Learn to delegate

This is important for mothers who have children of varying ages. Kids always look up to their older brothers and sisters, so dish out tasks to your teenagers that they can easily teach to your younger children.

Break down big jobs

Some cleaning tasks are monstrous and this is not ideal if you are being pestered by children. Try to break down big jobs into smaller, manageable chunks where possible.

Clean while you cook

You’ve cooked meals for your entire family and now you are faced with a mountain of washing up. Try to clean your kitchen as you are preparing the food, as this will save you a big job afterwards when your stomach is full!

Put a laundry system in place

The more children you have, the more laundry you will be doing each week. This is especially true if you have a baby who is constantly being sick over themselves. It can feel like your whole life revolves around the washing machine, so set aside one day a week when you will get as many loads done as possible.

Sit back, make a brew and let your partner worry about the cleaning!
