Babymoov Nutribaby | The Weekly Wean {Part 1}

The award-winning Nutribaby from Babymoov is a true kitchen genie. This innovative and unique 5-in-1 processor can be used from birth and adapts to the needs of the whole family, with enough cooking and blending capacity to cater for everyone. It can be used for sterilising and warming bottles in the early months and then when your little one’s ready for weaning, the Nutribaby steam cooks and purees food for added freshness and preservation of vitamin/minerals.

The Babymoov Nutribaby has 5 core functions:

  • Warming
  • Sterilising
  • Steaming
  • Blending
  • Defrosting

Over the coming weeks i will be putting the Babymoov Nutribaby to the test and reviewing each core function as part of ‘The Weekly Wean’.

First up is the ‘Warming’ function.

Now, the Nutribaby may look compact but it actually has enormous capacity and can warm up to 3 baby bottles at the same time and heat baby food jars in various sizes. When i first got the machine and its components out of the box, i have to be honest, i thought setting it up would be really difficult but the instructions were so simple to follow and the use of pictures really made the process much quicker than i had imagined.

The machine itself is controlled by the LCD screen on the front which displays individual icons for each of the functions, all of which are easily identifiable but there’s a full explanation in the manual should you need assistance.

Warming A Baby Bottle

Mums all have their own preferences when it comes to storing baby bottles and whereas i tend to keep Harry’s lukewarm at room temperature, i know others keep theirs in the refrigerator at a cool temperature but either method is fine because the Nutribaby caters for both.

If you’re using the Nutribaby for the first time you need to fill the water tank with 60ml of water. Then all you have to do is place the bottles on the insulating grill above the water tank, replace the lid on the cooker, turn the machine on with the switch at the back of the blender and then press the ‘Mode’ button to choose your desired function.

  • if you are warming cold water, you will need to select the baby bottle refrigerator icon.
  • if you are warming lukewarm water, you will need to select the baby bottle and house icon.

The Nutribaby is pre-programmed with heating times for baby bottles (see i told you it was clever!) so once you’ve selected the correct warming function, you just have to press the or - buttons to select the quantity of water being heated and then press OK to start. Simple. At the end of the cycle, an alarm will sound to inform you that the baby bottle is ready. Press OK to cancel the alarm.

I should probably make it known at this point that the pre-programmed cycles are based on the average heating time of a baby bottle and there are various factors that can affect the temperature of the milk including the material and thickness of the bottle, a removable bottom and the size. I use MAM bottles for Harry which have a removable base and i found that the Nutribaby didn’t quite warm his milk to the correct temperature. However this was easily rectified as i simply increased the heating time using the Nutribaby’s ‘steam cooking’ function. Similarly if the milk was too cold you could use the same function to reduce the heating time.

Warming A Baby Food Jar

Again, there are two warming options available when it comes to baby food jars, which is perfect for us as Harry’s are usually kept at room temperature and he never finishes a whole jar in one go, so i always put the remainder in the fridge and reuse it later that day or the following day. I think it’s common place with all baby food brands that the jars can be stored in a refrigerator for up to 48 hours once opened but don’t quote me on that.

The process for heating a baby food jar is exactly the same as it is for heating baby bottles. The only difference being the following:

  • if you are warming cold baby food, select the baby food jar refrigerator icon
  • if you are warming lukewarm baby food, select the baby food jar house icon

There are no pre-programmed times for this function as jar and quantity sizes across brands are generally the same so you just have to press OK at this point.

To test the warming function out thoroughly, i tried a variety of baby food jars from different brands and found that the Nutribaby heated them all perfectly except for the Heinz one which was bigger in size. This came out colder than the others and needed an extra minute to get it to the correct temperature.

I haven’t used the Nutribaby’s other functions yet but from what i’ve seen of it so far i am super impressed. It has made the process of warming bottles and baby food jars far more quicker and easier, which when you’re a busy mum of 2 young boys is kind of a BIG deal. Plus it’s easily to get distracted when you’ve got kids, so i think having visual and sound alarms to notify you when a cycle has finished is a brilliant feature. Anything that saves on time and multi-tasks is always going to be a winner in my eyes.

I’ll be back next week with a review of the sterilising function.
