Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Last week, for a day around Paris, I wore that (oh, so difficult) combination that generates such a
debate. Funny how every time I post a picture on my social media wearing socks and sandals suddenly
(almost) the whole world is classy (and too classic) and they all know better than me what should I be
wearing and what should I not. "That´s not cool, that´s cheap, tacky, vulgar..." Well, for me whoever
say that is boring. The ones speaking against it is always the ones that should be quiet and taking notes
and try to free their minds. It´s just a pair of socks! But then it all lead me to other thoughts.

I understood the reason why anyone would be against something that has nothing to do with them it
could be basically because of the following three things: One, It could be because they are scared. No
tolerance is the result of fear, of not knowing, of not understanding. Two, it could be that they
actually like it but they are trying to hide it by looking like they are against it. Or three: They
could just be idiots

I don´t want to do the whole post trying to debate about socks and sandals. Fashion people are far from
being surprised by that kind of styling but what I really would like is for not fashion people to be so
judgmental. In general. This is not about socks and sandals anymore, that´s just a silly example that
could be taken to any other kind of discrimination. Homophobia for instance. I can´t believe still today
we need to be fighting for gay rights. It´s so depressing, we think we live in a modern world and it´s
still just so retarded. There are many examples of idiots with power around the world but lately I´m
mainly pissed of with Dorchester Hotels chain owner, a Sultan who recently imposed a law in
Brunei with a new penal code that includes death by stoning for homosexuals and adulterous
women. Can celebrities stop having dinner there? Can fashion editors, stylist, photographers and
everyone else in the fashion week circle stop spending money on his hotels? And very importantly,
can bloggers stop posting stupid pictures on the hotels halls? That is the kind of intolerance that we
should stand for, Boycotting other intolerants.

I don´t know how I ended up writing about this but anyhow, the world is big enough for all of us, for
those wearing socks and sandals, for homosexuals and for both, homosexuals wearing socks and
sandals. And if you happen to have an issue with anything in between then the problem is yours.

La semana pasada, para una vuelta por París, me puse esa (uh, tan preocupante) combinación que
genera tanto debate. Es gracioso como cada vez que subo una foto a mis redes sociales llevando
sandalias y calcetines de repente (casi) todo el mundo tiene mucha más clase y todos saben mejor
que yo lo que me debería o no poner. "Eso no es cool, eso es barato, hortera..." Bueno, para mi
quien diga esto es una persona muy aburrida. Los que más hablan en contra son los que más
deberían callar y tomar nota y, sobretodo, liberar sus mentes. Son simplemente un par de
calcetines! El caso es que todo esto me llevó a otro lugar.

Me llevó a entender que la razón por la que alguien puede estar tan en contra de algo cuando no tiene
nada que ver con ello puede ser básicamente por una de estas tres cosas, uno: Que tengan miedo.
El miedo lleva a la intolerancia. Dos: Podría ser que de hecho les gustara y que intenten
ocultarlo estando totalmente en contra. O tres: Puede que simplemente sean imbéciles.

No quiero hacer un post entero intentando debatir sobre sandalias y calcetines. La gente que trabaja en
moda está lejos de sorprenderse por este tipo de estilismo pero lo que si me gustaría es que la gente que
no trabaja en moda no sea tan intolerante. En general. Lo que he escrito en el párrafo anterior ya no va
de sandalias y calcetines si quiera, eso era un ejemplo tonto de que podríamos llevar a cualquier tipo de
discriminación. Homofobia mismamente. No puedo creer que todavía hoy tengamos que luchar por los
derechos de los homosexuales. Es deprimente, nos creemos que vivimos en un mundo moderno y la
verdad es que en muchos lugares hay un gran retraso. Hay muchos ejemplos de idiotas con poder por
ahí pero últimamente estoy muy cabreado con el dueño de la cadena de Hoteles Dorchester, un
Sultán que acaba de instaurar una ley en Brunei con un código penal nuevo que incluye pena de
muerte por lapidación para homosexuales y mujeres adulteras. Por favor celebrities, podéis dejar
de ir a cenas y meetings en sus hoteles? Editores de moda, estilistas, fotógrafos y todo aquel en el
circuito de las semanas de la moda podéis dejar de gastaros dinero en sus hoteles? Y también,
importante, podrían las blogueras dejar de hacerse estúpidas fotos en los halls? Este es el tipo de
intolerancia que deberíamos practicar, boicotear a otros intolerantes.

No sé como acabé escribiendo sobre esto pero de cualquier manera, el mundo es suficientemente
grande para todos nosotros, para los que llevan sandalias con calcetines, para los homosexuales y
para los homosexuales que llevan sandalias con calcetines. Y si tienes algún problema con cualquier
cosa en medio entonces el problema es tuyo, la belleza se encuentra en los ojos del que mira.
