INSTAGRAMMED // My Hectic Summer

This summer has been busy, but I feel like I really haven’t done much. At least not a lot of “fun” stuff. I’ve been spending A LOT of time working, including some weekends. And last week, Q and I were in Florida doing some major wedding planning (which is why you haven’t heard from me!)

Being in Florida was fun, but it was a whirlwind trip. We did have the chance to meet up with a few friends and a lot of family, which was so nice, but we were also sitting in back-to-back tastings, meetings with vendors, site visits…you name it, we did it. Everything went really well. We’re in love with our venue, our wedding menu is solid, we’re going to have TWO CAKES, my dress needs barely any alterations (just some hemming) and just about ready to get our invitations out. The next three months until the wedding are going to be absolutely CRAZY, but we’ve been so blessed by the way things have worked out.

Oh, and I put Marley twists in my hair because I figured it would save me time, and it really has. Last summer when I had Marley twists, I think I wore them for two weeks, and I didn’t moisturize my hair at all! Crazy, I know. I want to keep these in for at least three weeks (ideally four) and I’ve been moisturizing and sealing every other day. First I spritz my hair with water, and then I use my KBB leave-in. Then I seal all the moisture in with Oyin Handmade Sugar Pomade (juice and berries scent). It’s only been a week since I’ve had the Marley twists in, so they still look great, and I am LOVING this look!

I have been trying to make time for a few fun things here and there though. Mostly a few lowkey bbq/rooftop gatherings. I also had the chance to kick it in DC for a couple days for work, so I spent one night with my friends before heading back to NYC. And we got to see our dear friend Jake Barker perform on tour with Tessanne Chin! And then he PROPOSED ON STAGE! I would have died if Quentin had proposed to me in front of people. The whole crowd went crazy.

Being this busy has made it more difficult to do any creative freelance work on the side. I don’t think I’ll be able to take on any new work through BLOG & COMPANY until after the wedding, and if we go on honeymoon right away, I may not do any freelancing until next year. I have so many ideas and plans, but just no time, and I don’t want to repeat the same mistakes I made with Feisty Society. I want to have the time to really devote to my freelance work and do a good, meaningful job. Saying no to potential clients has been difficult, but with all the hours I’m putting in at work and the number of loose ends we have to tie up before the wedding day, I think this is the best move for me. In the meantime, I’m reading a lot and making some concrete plans so that I’ll be ready to hit the ground running come 2015. I really want 2015 to be my last year working for someone else!

It’s only been a week, but I’ve missed you all! Can’t wait to get back into a blogging rhythm this week. Thanks for sticking around =)
