Sew Your Own Travel Organizer

To ride on the tailcoat of Selfish Sewing Week that is happening this week, I thought I’d share with you another Craftsy class that I am enrolled in! This class is called Sew Sturdy Travel Organizers and it is taught by pattern designer and creator of ByAnnie Soft and Stable, Annie Unrein. She is a fantastic instructor and really knows her stuff. I’ve only watched a few of the lessons so far, but I am already extremely impressed. Sewing with vinyl, installing multiple zippers, applying piping, and using hardware has always been a bit intimidating for me, so I am excited to get a sort of “hands on” approach by taking this video class on Craftsy! I wanted to take this class because it is a little out of my comfort zone and I really can’t wait for the finished product.

OH, and Sew Caroline readers can take advantage of getting this class for 50% off by using this exclusive link! ((That makes this class a steal of a deal at $14.99, instead of $29.99… especially when you take into consideration all the patterns and video lessons you’ll be getting for an unlimited amount of time!))

So what’s in this class?

You’ll get the patterns and seven video lessons that walk you through step by step how to make the Hanging Cosmetic Bag as well as the Everything in Its Place Organizer. There is also a message board for an easy way to ask questions and get an answer from your classmates or even directly from Annie herself!

My plan is to watch all the videos and learn as much as I can before I even start cutting and stitching. For me, I tend to follow along a lot better when I’ve already gone through the steps (at least in my head) once before. Plus, I’ll be using a lot of different-to-me techniques that I think I’ll need to go slow with at first to ensure I understand!

SO let’s talk fabric. I was PLANNING on making these bags out of some coordinating scraps from my ever-growing pile (what? don’t you have one, too?).. BUT Art Gallery just announced THIS fantastic line of fabric that is coming out in February, so I may have to wait to make mine after that line comes out. These are my three favorite prints:

Maybe my plan, now, will be to sew some practice ones with my scraps, give them away as Christmas gifts, and then sew myself a new set in February when I can get my hands on that fabric! I envision myself using these organizers for sewing notions, sewing supplies, etc. and not just as travel organizers. What do you think?

Don’t forget to take advantage of this awesome 50% off link- you don’t want to miss out on such an informative class!
