Like Father, Like Daughter…Run Like Daddy
As many of you might already know, my husband is a runner, not just a runner, a marathon runner. I know he is nuts! But he loves it. He has wanted me to start running for as long as we have been together. He had this fairy tale dream of us jogging into the sunset together. After our daughter was born, that dream expanded to a family of runners living happily ever after together.
About a month ago, I took my first steps in making that dream a reality when I registered for my first 5K. To my disappointment I have been lacking in time, opportunity & the energy to train for it properly. My race is only two weeks away & I am feeling ill prepared.
This weekend at the State Police Run, my husband registered our little girl for her first race, The Diaper Dash. Mai was plenty prepared though. She has been running since she was 9 months old, running after the dog, running away from mommy, running around in circles. She has been training for this for most of her life.
We were not sure what to expect. Would it be a hoard of toddlers running in every which direction trampling each other on a field? The thought was starting to send shivers up my spine.
As it turns out the mommies & daddies would be running alongside their running tots. So hand in hand, Mai & I ran to the finish line & finished our first race together. It turns out the Diaper Dash is just my speed, but seriously my husband & I were very proud of our little girl. That beautiful dream of my husband’s seems suddenly more desirable to me. Maybe we will become that running family after all. I better get back to training.
