I am officially titling this look “How to Be Goth in the Summer”. Yesterday was so hot that I had to dress like a half-naked shabby ghoul to keep from having a heat stroke on my way to Safeway for a snack. I was channeling equal parts Wednesday Addams and Rihanna in this outfit. It would have been a great time if the grocery bagger in Safeway hadn’t been leering at me as I checked out. It’s sad and frustrating that I’ve had to learn to ignore disgusting behavior from men.

The bra in the first picture is just for show, I didn’t wear it out. It’s the Jet Bra by Agent Provocateur that I got on sale. I love the way it looks under a sheer top, the PVC binding shines perfectly through the fabric. I’m not a fan of lined bras unless they are interestingly shaped. I only wear cotton bras from American Apparel, which is what I’m wearing in the other pictures. I don’t need much support and I don’t care about nipples showing through (surprise! I have human body parts). I’ve always hated standard bras. These are the perfect solution for that problem. The sheer black top is from Zara and the sheer black skirt is vintage from Etsy. The shorts under the skirt are for modesty.

I’m sorry that my skin is so blinding. I am a super pasty Latina-Gollum and there’s not much I can do about it. The melanin in my skin burns under the sun, otherwise I would tan (my mother calls me “fantasma”). On another angry note, as a decidedly goth-y person, I’d like for people to get rid of the idea that you need to be light-skinned to pull off a goth look. I recognize the privilege and colorism in compliments about my pallor. Support goths of color. Tim Burton doesn’t know what he’s doing. It’s exhausting to see that people are still praising whiteness in alternative spaces. Read more about the issue here, here, and here.
