What I’m Making: Coasters

This is probably the simplest craft post ever, but I’m so happy to finally have new coasters and they’re so pretty that I have to tell you all to go make a whole bunch immediately. Before these, we were using pumpkin and spiderweb Halloween coasters from 2008. I was emotionally attached to them for no reason and was sad when the last one finally fell apart a few months ago. Since I’m really fussy and annoying about using coasters on the tables, I knew I had to make something asap! Now I have a few of these on basically every surface. They keep popping up everywhere. I picked Lily Sugar ‘n Cream because it’s cheap and cotton made the most sense (also, pretty colors). I used this great basic pattern from Yarngear which is easily customizable if you want to change the size or make something holiday-related. Which I do! It would be fun to use this as a base and make pumpkins for fall and peppermints for Christmas. Plus I found this turkey pattern that I’m definitely making before Thanksgiving.A friend on instagram suggested that I make a few to dunk in water and freeze for teething toys, which I’m going to do because Oliver is already obsessed with stealing and chewing on them. Seriously, every day it’s like MUST. GET. TO. COASTERRRRRS. *grabs them and flails around* Apparently they double as amazing baby toys.
The pattern: Cast on using magic loop. Rnd 1:Ch3, 11dc in ring, ss into beg 3rd ch (12 sts total) Rnd 2: Ch3, 1dc in same 3rd ch as last ss, 2dc in next and each st all around, ss into beg 3rd ch (24 sts total) Rnd 3:Ch3, 1dc in same 3rd ch as last ss, *1dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, rep from * to last st, 1dc in next st, ss into beg 3rd ch (36 sts total)

Rnd 4: Ch3, 1dc in same 3rd ch as last ss, *1dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, rep from * to last 2 sts, 1dc in each of next 2 sts, ss into beg 3rd ch (48 sts total)
