My Earliest Memory

I have always had a good memory. I can remember the most random things from years ago; elementary school friends' birthdays, phone numbers that I haven't called in years, etc. Strangely enough I can enter a room and forget why I entered it in the first place. The wonders of the human mind....
I was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the youngest of three children and the only girl (double whammy as my brothers used to say). We lived in Missouri for about 3 1/2 years before moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Being that I was young, I have very few memories but my first memory is so vivid.
It was a hot day in St. Louis and my parents had taken my brothers and I to see the Arch. The Arch is known as the "Gateway to the West". It is a beautiful monument built to honor Thomas Jefferson and the pioneers.
Sounds like a great family thing to do right? I'm sure it started out that way. Until we got there. I do not recall the actual conversations (keep in mind I was probably 3) but my parents have filled in the gaps. My vivid memory? Sitting in a hot car, my forehead against the window, with my mom in the front seat, staring up at this magnificent silver arch.

Where were my brothers and my dad? They got to go up in the arch and ride up to the top and see the beautiful views. I'm sure you're thinking that I threw a temper tantrum or misbehaved or that there was an age limit. No, no, and no.
The reason I stayed behind in the car? Earlier (maybe a month or a few weeks prior) somebody had fallen from the Arch and died. How this is possible I don't know. All that I do know is that my mom deemed it unsafe and that she and I were not going.
The moral of this memory? This is more than likely where my fear of heights got its start. But more importantly? This is the proof I give my brothers that I am the favorite child. My mom was willing to send them up but deemed it unsafe for me.
Just kidding guys....I'm sure mom and dad love you (just not as much as me).
What is your earliest memory?
