How to Get Vintage iPhone Photos: PicFX App Review
Autumn has just ended and the trees are losing all their colour, but I love how PicFX makes autumn come alive again. Ever since my last post on my favourite iPhonegraphy apps, PicFX has quickly become my most used editing app for the past three weeks. Photos do not need to be cropped to a square (I mentioned they did in my last post). The range of filters is amazing, including Classics, PFX Film, Vintage, Urban, CrossProcess, Premixed, Black & White, Scratches, Light, Textures, Space, Grunge, and Frames. I especially love how I am able to adjust the amount of filter I want to apply by using the slider provided on the right, a function Instagram filters sadly lack. I would recommend trying Meadow (classified under Classics) to enhance trees/grass/green; PFX 5 to add a milky, soft look (classified under PFX Film); Vintage Film for a gorgeous golden brown tinge and vignette reminiscent of Polaroid days (classified under Vintage); and Leak 2 as it creates this simple but dreamy red light leak on the right hand side of the photo (classified under Light).
The only negative I can think about this app is that there is no filter that tones down exposure / no exposure adjustments, as most of the filters are mainly for curves, bokeh and light leak overlays and frames. To fix this exposure problem (which you would have if you combined a lot of filters), I usually tweak the exposure in MagicHour. If you happen to be using an Android phone, PicFX is free but only has a very limited range of filters and no bokeh overlays (in which case I would advise you to just try out Afterlight, MagicHour or VSCOcam).
