pottery on the wheel, part two

Happy New Year! 2014 - do you believe it? I'm still in holiday mode.

Back in November, I promised photos of finished pots thrown during my first class at Savannah's Clay Spot. Well, class ended just before Christmas. I loved it so much that I'm starting a new class tomorrow morning, this time focused on both wheel throwing and hand formed pieces.

Below are photos of the final pieces I made, before and after glazing. It's fascinating how glaze changes color after firing in the kiln.. the two planters with blue-dipped rims looked tan before they were fired.

The brown and black set above is a sake set I made for Neil for Christmas, the blue and gray planter for Rhi's birthday.

If you have a chance to take a wheel throwing class near where you live, I recommend it. It can be intimidating at first, but with time, things get more fun and a littler easier. I still have a long way to go, but that's a part of the charm.. there are no shortcuts, it just takes practice.

Hope you have a wonderful start to 2014!
