Concessions with myself

After 30 years in this body, I'm starting to learn a thing or two about it. Namely, it's solar powered. Spending 8 hours a day in a windowless office drains me, but nothing makes me feel more human than sitting in a sunbeam. Ok, maybe that makes me feel more feline, but it's wonderful nonetheless.

One thing I wanted was a bright airy basement. Growing up in bi-levels and raise bungalows, it's been great to have full sized windows in our basements. However this house is just a plain old bungalow with a grand total of three itty bitty windows in the basement. In winter, I didn't so much mind - it was always dark when I was home, anyway. But now that we're getting sun, glorious sun, I like staying upstairs in the land of the living.

We brought our "gaming TV" upstairs in February to watch the Olympics (our basement TV does not get good over-the-air reception) and after one weekend, I was hooked. TV and sunlight? Apparently, it takes very little to make me THAT happy. And since I spent my week holiday in February staring at the crappy small screen when we were supposed to be basking in the sunlight of Mexico, I thought "hey! I never got a birthday present! That's it... I can spend 10% of the cost of a trip to Mexico and get me a TV".

And so I did.

Granted, I'd always said that when I grew up my living room would be for visiting. However, as our dining room is turning into a nursery, the reading room into a sewing room, my living room can have a TV, as long as it was small and somewhat unobtrusive. It's not ideal but definitely much cheaper than jacking up our house enough to get some bigger windows put into the basement!
