Started: Dec 14, 2014 | Ended: Dec 23, 2014
Synopsis:
An ill-timed storm on Christmas Eve buries the residents of Gracetown under multiple feet of snow and causes quite a bit of choas. One brave soul ventures out into the storm from her stranded train and sets off a chain of events that will change quite a few lives. Over the next three days one girl takes a risky shortcut with an adorable stranger, three friends set out to win a race to the Waffle House (and the hash brown spoils), and the fate of a teacup pig falls into the hands of a lovesick barista.
Disclaimer: I will be talking about events that happen in the book, so spoiler alert. You've been warned!

1. The Jubilee Express by Maureen Johnson

This was Part 1 of the three short stories. This story follows Jubilee Dougal as her story starts off with her waiting to go to almost-perfect boyfriend, Noah's family Christmas party when she finds out from their neighbour lawyer that her parents were arrested, and she needs to pack immediately to get on a train to travel to Florida to stay with her grandparents. All of this takes place on Christmas Eve, and Jubilee takes you along the crazy 24 hours she has to go through.

I really liked this story! I enjoyed going along on Jubilee's Christmas Eve nightmare, and seeing how she gets through it. I really like Maureen's writing style since I've never read anything from her before. I especially enjoyed the cute romance that occurred between Jubilee and the boy she met at The Waffled House, Stuart. I know Stranger Danger is real (and she does touch note of that), so that's why this is just cute fiction!

2. A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle by John Green

This story follows Tobin, and his two friends, JP and the Duke. They start off watching a James Bond movie, but then their friend Keun (who we met in the first story) calls to let them know there's cheerleaders staying at The Waffle House where he works and tells them to get there immediately with the game Twister. Keun is working with two other people, who also called their friends. So the race begins to see who can get to The Waffle House first! Will they make it?

I love John Green!! I love his writing style so much, and so of course I liked this story. I liked a tad bit more than the first one. I enjoyed their adventure a bit more, how it was a race to get there and it was fun and cute. (Spoiler alert) I had a feeling that The Duke (who's a girl) liked Tobin from the very beginning. I love their story and Tobin's journey of discovering his true feelings as well as discovering her feelings for him!!

3. The Patron Saint of Pigs by Lauren Myracle

This story follows Addie Lindsey as she struggles through heartbreak and self-realization! Her story was interesting, and it ended up connecting all the stories together in the end. In the first two stories, we encounter Jeb, a guy who was stuck on the train with Jubliee who was desperate to get to his girlfriend. Then when they all went to The Waffle House for warmth, he encountered Tobin who he tried to get to send a message to his girlfriend. In the third story, we meet that girlfriend, Addie. Addie also made a small appearance in the first story since she's friends with Stuart, she was in a story Stuart shared with Jubilee.

We find out that Addie and Jeb broke up, for which Addie is to blame and she's heartbroken about it, unaware that Jeb is trying to get to her. She calls up her two best friends, Dorrie and Tegan, to help her with her crisis. As they help her out, Tegan lets them know that her teacup pig, Gabriel, is arriving on Boxing Day. This leads Addie on her journey, and ends up with everyone all together in the same place.

End thoughts

I really enjoyed this book!! I thought it was so cute! A nice book to read at Christmas time. I liked all three stories, and where each main character ended up in the end. It was all very sweet and Christmasy.

Next book on the list: Girl Online by Zoe Sugg. (It's one of my Christmas presents, so I'll have to wait a few days to read it!)
