Dans Mes Rêves

So I spent (a glorious) 48 hours in the south of France last week. Since it was such a brief trip, a lot my film is of the grounds of our resort, La Mas de Pierre, but that's ok because their grounds were insanely gorgeous and amazing and smelled like warm honey and flowers. (It was a little too manicured to feel like that one sex scene in I Am Love, and not lavish enough, but you got the sense that that kind of sexual liberality could be in practice a bit further down the road.)

I didn't realize until like, two days ago when I finally looked at a map—Nice is totally nowhere near Paris. (Don't laugh.) It reminded me a lot more of Florence, which makes sense as the two cities are pretty much equilateral. Driving around town and around the coast there were moments when it felt like we were in the Caribbean and some moments that felt so L.A.

Our resort was on the side of a mountain leading up to the historical village of Saint-Paul de Vence. We ate dinner our first night in the village at La Colombe D'or and on our second night at a Michelin-starred chateau nearby. Both were overwhelmingly delicious. I've never been presented with so much food in my life—there was an entire course for cheese! Foie gras macarons were had. Guys, it was so serious. That being said, I would probably approach the eating situation differently a second time around. As much fun as it was to indulge in heavily-buttered bacon bread, you just can't go HAM on carbs when you've got seven more courses of seriously artisanal shit coming your way.

For this trip I stocked up on Kodak Ektar 100 versus the Portra 160 I shot with in San Francisco (a few are uploaded to my Flickr) and the Portra 400 I used in L.A. I was a bit concerned about the quality of the Ektar in comparison, though I think everything turned out fine. I really love using my little Pentax, but got home from this trip and Googled Jennilee Marigomen to see if she'd done any interviews where she talks about what kind of camera she uses. I found one interview illustrated with images she'd shot with a Nikon F90x and promptly bought one on eBay, so you have that to look forward to in the near future!
