MYKITA + MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA

frames ℅ Mykita Maison Martin Margiela

The lovechild of Berlin based manufactory Mykita and Maison Martin Margiela is one of those extraordinary objects that is hard to describe and even capture on camera.
A very pure and minimalistic line of glasses, the stainless steel frames are reduced to the raw material without no additive components. The shapes are inspired by iconic, historical shapes from the last century and are all made in monochromatic colourways; gold, copper, silver and black.

The technology and precise craftsmanship on these is out of this world. Holding these in your hand makes you realize that the future is now, so I wasn’t surprised to hear that all frames are handmade at Haus Mykita in Berlin; a modern manufactory with holistic values, a place where they bring together expertise from all disciplines under one single roof to search for innovation.

The construction of these glasses is completely different that any other frame that I’ve ever seen before. There hasn’t been a single screw or hinge used to make them. The temples are attached by a system where the metal is bended in a spiral and springs back and forth when opening and closing, it’s incredible. The crazy thing about the metal frame is that it is slightly bendable yet always goes back to its shape.

Describing them is almost a bit silly.
You should go check them out for yourself.
They are in stores next week at Maison Martin Margiela and Mykita stores.
