DIY : Sponge Pattern Statement Wall

I have a huge obsession with simple statement walls. Since moving to my new loft, I decided that I wanted to incorporate a small patterned wall just to add visual interest to the wall. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of blank white space but a subtle tone on tone pattern was perfect to jazz up this little corners nook. This entire project only took me about two hours at max and costed me a whole $1.50 (crazy right).

Here in L.A. we have been experiencing quite a bit of overcast which did not allow me to take the best photos of the walls. However, I think the photos show the idea!

For the supplies all you need is a sponge, pair of scissors, paper plate, mixing bowl and choice of paint. I have quite a bit of assorted acrylic paints so I decided to mix a few to create a light grey color. You can definitely go out and purchase a small bucket of paint in your preferred color however this only costed me $1 in paint (I got a ton of paint at Michaels on sale).
Start by cutting your sponge into a perfect 2.5 x 2.5 inch square. Keep in mind that the thicker the sponge, the easier it is to hold while stamping the wall. In the photos below, you will want to create a paper template (2.5×2.5″) for the sign. I then used a transparent ruler to mark 3/4″ off either corner. This creates a symmetrical stamp!

Place the stencil on top of the sponge and cut away the pieces of sponge you do not need.

The paint color was a mixture of white, grey and silver. I did not have a set grey color in mind. Just something rather light that was not too harsh against the white wall.
To stamp, put some of the paint onto a paper plate. This will allow you too get off excess paint before pressing stamp against the wall. I also used a paint brush to clean up the edges and fill in any missed spot that the stamp didn’t hit.
I did not stamp in any particular order, just wherever I thought needed a stamp. You can definitely align all the stamps to create a more geometric pattern.
That’s all there is too it! This wall was extremely easy to create and you can do it too! Feel free to create different sponge shapes (Possibly a chevron “V” shape). What are your thoughts on this wall!
