Refashion – Distressed Denim Skirt

Hey y'all! It's been a crazy week and my sewing time has been quite limited. In fact I haven't even managed to go grocery shopping until tonight. It feels so good to have a fully stocked fridge! So, on to the DIY! I've had this denim pencil skirt for over ten years and decided it was time to give it a makeover.

The denim has a lot of stretch to it which puckered at the pockets and hem. To start my refashion I cut off the hem, applied interfacing and used two rows of top stitching to hold it in place. I'd love to be able to do something similar to the pockets but can't think of how I could do it because of the rivets.

To finish off the refashion, I added some strategically placed distressing on the front of the skirt. To created the distressing, I mostly used sandpaper and a whole lot of elbow grease. The sandpaper gradually breaks down the fibers to create the distress without creating big holes. After washing, I expect it to soften up and look even more natural. Overall I'm really pleased and looking forward to adding it to my wardrobe rotation. Do you have any refashions in the works?
